For the 2nd week in a row, all 14 programs play conference games.
Thu. 7:30 (ESPN) #15 Cheaters [7-2/5-1] at Duke [3-6/0-5]
The Cheaters stay on the tail feathers of the Hokies with a blowout win over the Jackets while Duke gave the Hokies a good run in Jersey. A loss here by Duke keeps them home for the holidays. The Cheaters have a 60-38-4 series lead as well as have won the last 2, breaking a brief 2-game Duke winning streak. In those 2 wins, the Cheaters scored 66 and 45 points. Since Visor Boy ran off 3 straight in the series from ’87 to ’89, the Cheaters have cheated to a 23-3 record. The Cheaters are laying 11 pts 8 miles up the road.
Fri. 7:30 (ESPN-2) Boston College [4-5/1-5] at #20 Florida State [6-3/3-3]
The Eagles were drilled at home by Louisville this past weekend while the Noles had to score late to avoid the slight upset at Raleigh. Just want to say BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to the ACC agreeing to Friday night games this late in the season. I know ESPN wants this, but the ACC should push back. Labor Day weekend? OK. But, Friday nights should be left for high schools. Games up at BC against Syracuse this time of year? OK. But, not in Florida. Hope we never see this at Tech. Off soapbox. Noles have a 14-4 lead in the series and have won 6 straight. FSU is laying 21 at home.
12:30 (ACC Network) NC State [4-5/1-4] at Syracuse [4-5/2-3]
What was once looking like a promising season for the Wolfies is now in dire straits. A loss here puts them in the likely position to stay home for the holidays as they host the Canes and travel to Cheaterville to end the season. The Orange has a tough row to hoe themselves as they still must host the Noles and then finish at Pitt. So, this is a must-win kind of game for both teams if they have postseason MEG aspirations. The Pack has won 8 of the 9 meetings all-time and is 2-1 over the Orange since Cuse joined the ACC recently. The game is currently off the board at the sportsbooks.
2:00 (RSN) Miami [5-4/2-3] at Virginia [2-7/1-4]
The Canes ended a 4-game losing streak with an impressive win over Pitt at home, while the Cavaliers dropped a 7-pt game at Wake. This may seem like an odd start time and slot for the weekly ACC RSN game, but I think they are trying to work it in with some college basketball games over the regional sports networks (starting at 12, ending at 2…another starting at 5:30). Miami has had trouble with Virginia in general since joining the ACC and especially at Scott Sisson Stadium. We know their pain too well on that. The Canes lead the all-time series 7-6 (6-6 since joining the ACC). Miami has lost 3 straight at Charlottesville and the win before that streak began in 2008 was in overtime. Virginia is 4-2 over Miami at SSS. Miami is laying a whopping 10 pts.
3:30 (ESPN-U) Georgia Tech [5-4/2-4] at #18 Virginia Tech [7-2/5-1]
The Hokies just need to defeat the Jackets and Cavaliers – both at home – to win another Coastal title. A preview of this game already exists in another thread… https://georgiatech.forums.rivals.c...-leather-game-10-preview-virginia-tech.14597/ The Hokies are laying 13 pts.
3:30 (ESPN or ESPN-2) Pittsburgh [5-4/2-3] at #3 Clemson [9-0/6-0]
Pitt still looks good to qualify for a MEG with only Duke and Cuse at home left after this final road game. Clemson drilled the Orange at home and needs to put on a similar performance to continue to impress the playoff committee. A Tigers win clinches their ticket to the ACCCG. These 2 programs have only met once and that was a Pitt 34-3 win in the 1977 Gator Bowl. Clemson is laying 20 at home.
7:00 (ESPN-2) Wake Forest [6-3/3-2] at #5 Louisville [8-1/6-1]
The Deacs have now qualified for a MEG with their win over Virginia this past week. UofL needs to keep blowing folks out and then needs some help regarding their fading hopes of squeezing into the top 4 for the playoffs. The Cardinals are 3-0 all-time versus the Deacs, 2-0 since joining the ACC and a 24-13 win in the Orange MEG to cap the 2006 season (when the Deacs beat Chan Gailey’s putrid offense in the ACCCG to get there). Cards are laying 33 at home.
And a few others…
12:00 (Fox Sports 1) #11 West Virginia [7-1/4-1] at Texas [5-4/3-3]
WVU still is in the title chase for the Big 12 trophy. They host league-leader Oklahoma in Week 12. Texas likely will be letting go a pretty good head coach at the end of this season. Funny how another head coach with a defensive background sports a terrible defense…maybe that is just staying with the theme of the Big 12 though. The 2 have met 5 times with the Mounties holding a 3-2 edge. Texas is laying 1.5 pts at home.
3:30 (CBS) #8 Auburn [7-2/5-1] at Cesspool [5-4/3-4]
The Cesspool likely saved its season from complete destruction at Kentucky this past Saturday night with the late comeback victory. Auburn is making Clemson look better and better every week, having now won 6 straight and in the top 10. The Cheaters (North Carolina variety, that is) and Virginia stake claim to “The South’s Oldest Rivalry”. Well, not to be left out, Auburn and the Cesspool have deemed theirs as “The DEEP South’s Oldest Rivalry”. How silly. The Cesspool has a slight 56-55-8 series lead, built recently on going 8-2 in the last 10 (where’s Spray Tan Boy again?). Auburn is laying 10 pts at the Toilet Bowl.
7:30 (FOX) Southern Cal [6-3/5-2] at #4 Washington [9-0/6-0]
Washington continues to impress and is getting ever so close to that perfect season and playoff bid. Louisville fans will be rooting hard for the Trojans this week. The Huskies still have tough games left at Washington State (6-0 in the Pac 12) and the Pac 12 championship game assuming they get there. The Trojans are just on the outside looking in at this week’s top 25 as they sit at #26 in the AP Poll. They enter this game hot on a 5-game winning streak after having opened the season 1-3 (though losses were to Bama, Stanford and Utah…all away from home). USC holds an all-time series lead of 51-29-4, though the Huskies have won 3 of the last 5 going back to ’09. Washington is laying 8 pts at home.
Thu. 7:30 (ESPN) #15 Cheaters [7-2/5-1] at Duke [3-6/0-5]
