T-Babes (16-7/11-3)
The Babes moved up one spot in this week's national rankings to #15. I hoped the computers would bump them up a bit more. Regardless, the Jackets are the 3-seed in the ACCT this week at Cary, NC. Tech will open on Friday morning at 10am against the winner of Thursday's match pitting 6-seed Clemson against the winner of Wednesday's 11-Notre Dame vs 14-Pitt match.
The T-Babes defeated Clemson 6-1 at home while also defeated the Irish on the road 4-3 and Pitt at home 6-1. A Friday morning win moves the T-Babes to the Saturday semifinals against most likely 2-seed Miami, who is ranked #7 in the nation. Way back at the beginning of the season on Jan. 29th in Coral Gables the Canes skunked the T-Babes 7-0.
The NCAAT regionals for both the Babes and Dudes are right around the corner, May 6-8. Still on the lookout for when the selection show is scheduled. Getting to the semifinals and avoiding an upset on Friday may very well clinch a hosting for the T-Babes. Pretty sure the T-Dudes will be a 2-seed and travel some place.
T-Dudes (15-7/8-4)
Coach Thorne's team continues to improve. They hovered around the 50-60 ranking nationally and captured the 7-seed a year ago heading into the ACCT. This year, they were very close to upsetting the Cheaters this past weekend who are ranked #3 in the nation and getting the coveted 4-seed and day off. Instead, the razor thin loss at Chapel Hell has the Dudes as the 5-seed which will have them opening on Thursday at 4pm against the winner of the 12-BC vs 13-Louisville match on Wednesday. Barring a huge letdown, this will create a quick rematch with the 4-seed Cheaters on Friday at 4pm. Interesting that the Cheaters are ranked #3 in the nation, but only were able to capture the #4 seed in the ACC.
Good luck to both teams as they proceed into postseason. Both teams are playing really well right now and are peaking at the right time. Indeed, the best program (T-Babes) and one of the top 3 (T-Dudes along with maybe Beesball) programs this otherwise depressing school year from an athletics perspective.
