Tech opens as 10-pt favorites at Rutgers-Durham

IIRC (and that's an iffy proposition here) the blue devils were 3 point favorites over 23-ranked Northwestern in Rutgers-Durham. Now they are 10 point dogs in their own house against #20? Looks like Vegas put Wallace Wade in the dog house.

If our blocking on the perimeter doesn't improve dramatically from last week to Saturday, that line is nuts. We missed our senior WR's and A-backs in a big bad way up there in South Bend.

Good news is that those are the best athletes our young perimeter guys may have to block all season. Great teachable moment and an even greater opportunity for growth. To get that in a game that doesn't affect the conference record is a good thing - maybe even a blessing.

Let's get 'em up Jersey way!

A little concerned about our injuries at some skill positions.

Summers had a sling on during the second half, out at least through the Dook game.

Searcy out for eight weeks. Others nicked up seriously like Freddie Burden. Snoddy rolled his ankle at the least.

Edited to say, per another site: Byerly is having season-ending surgery and seeking similar waiver to what Errin Joe will be filing with the NCAA.

As the old saying goes in athletics, you are never as bad as you look some times and never as good as you look other times. Or something like that.

I think Tech will bounce back in a big way. I'm not touching a 10 pt spread with a 622 foot golden pole though. Will need to see how Tech does a game or two against solid competition to lay that much faith in the Good Guys.

Now we enter a stretch of 8 straight conference games...with the next 2 against division rivals who beat us last year.

10 points a little too much.

+1

A 2-pt win in quadruple OT would taste pretty sweet.

Duke's D-line isn't as big and strong as ND's. But they will be a tough follow-up at Duke.

First conference game for both teams.

You are correct sir. That is why the number is down to 9 1/2....edited, now 8 1/2.

I agree with both of you and would gladly accept a 1 point win or a forfeit should Cut-cliff become afraid of that 622 foot pole!

Thinking this game is going to come down to the fourth quarter. I do remember one game years ago flying up to Durham for the day...we were prohibitive favorites...needless to say the dinner served on the airplane was not desired that evening. Did not want to look at a fork for a few days after that Blue Devil danced all over us with his pitch-fork.

I also think Tech will bounce back in a big way (not -10 confident, but still confident). I know CPJ didn't want it to happen this way, but he now has their attention. There was a definite sense of exasperation in his voice during pressers since the beginning of camp that the youngster's don't quite get it. After today's film sessions, that should be a thing of the past.

Early week money coming in on Rutgers-Durham. Line opened at -10 and has shifted to -8.5 at midweek. Game will be played in a steady rain throughout.

Sorry to see Gamble is out. I think he's played very well so far. Gotsis and Hunt-Days need to step it up now and fill in his minutes. They need to force some pressure on Duke's QB.
