It was second scrimmage and the D got the better of it, gave up a few big plays at the end, O couldn't do much up.
CPJ said they have OL issues, pretty frustrated and they are not getting better. "We are not very good." Starting OL was Bryan, Marshall, Muns, Griffin and Klock said Griffin was only able to go some, still have issues with his knee (my guess is they will have to look at it again after spring for a scope). Said they will keep working on OL and CPJ will be more hands on with them, very frustrated with the two OL coaches as well. Said what they are doing won't work. PJ said the two starting tackles have disappointed him because they are the most experienced sadly and haven't lived up to his expectations so far either. Said he thinks Klock and Bryan will get it going.
Said RG has been a revolving door this spring. CPJ said he is going to be hands on.
CPJ said they changed some protections, but said they are struggling staying in front of the defenders.
Said TaQuon Marshall did some great things running around, said he may start pushing JT if JT doesn't get it together. JT got knocked out of the scrimmage after someone stepped on his foot. TaQuon is quick and hard to tackle, PJ said he was the best player on offense today.
CPJ said it is hard to evaluate what JT is doing because of the struggles around him especially on DL.
CPJ said Corey Griffin has made some nice tackles, but has given up a few big plays. CPJ said AJ GRay has been the most consistent.
CPJ said they had around 50 busts on both sides of the ball today, not good.
CPJ talked about satellite, he is on the competition committee, said they did the right thing because the camps are supposed to be teaching opportunities not carpet bagging recruits only which is what those schools from the B1G were trying to do. Said that coaches have enough access to video and tape to evaluate without going to Florida or Georgia to camp.
CPJ talked about how he has the smallest staff in the ACC, said most of the schools in the ACC have 10 recruiting analysts, GT has four.
CPJ is on the committee that wants to cut overall staff down to 25 (coaches, GAs, quality control and recruiting staff) which would hurt teams like Clemson. Said that it is unfair to schools with less resources (read GT, WF, NCST, Duke, etc.) when they don't have the money to pay 10 people in a recruiting office. GT has 20 staff in those roles as of today. No quality control guys yet. CPJ said that Clemson has 40 people in that role.
CPJ said he would like to have money to hire those people, but they don't have the money or space to hire them, he wants to be competitive with others and he would like to hire five more people on staff.
They also passed a rule allowing coaches to look at video and film in the coaches box during games, but PJ made a good point that none of the press boxes are set up in a way were you can have that stuff for the visitors. Said the visiting boxes in the league are like shoeboxes. Said that both sides have to have the same stuff and the are not equipped the same way. Said it will cost schools $100-300k to fix.
Ricky Jeune talked about he needs to improve on his blocking and getting separation from CBs.
Step Durham said that he is embracing his role as the vet corner, talked up Meiko Dotson who is working behind him.
Durham spent his spring break working with at risk kids at a youth detention center, said he would sit in when others spoke when he was a kid and it was nice to give back, but weird to be the mentor guy.
