"Mike called and said that he had been offered the Purdue job and he took it for several reasons. I think he has family back there in the Midwest and that he was going to take it," Johnson said. "I wish him well."

"I'm sure Dr. Peterson will hire a good guy to take his place and our challenge is to move on as normal," Johnson said. "I'm sure Dr. Peterson will hire some good and they will vet them. My job is to coach the football team and I'm going to focus on that. I want an AD that will do a good job for the Georgia Tech Athletic Association and I'm sure Dr. Peterson has the same thing in mind and they will go through a process to find that type of person."

Johnson made light of his contentious relationship with Bobinski.

"I think that Mike and I were cordial and his style of leadership was different than Dan (Radakovich). It wasn't like we got in a fistfight every day in the hall. We got along and were cordial to each other. Sometimes that gets blown out of proportion."

When asked if he was interested in the AD job, Johnson quickly responded with a "no."

"I think that is a pretty tough job. My job is tough, but that one might be harder," Johnson said with a laugh. "That is a tough job."

Practice went well and they are flying around.

CPJ said the 1st team OL played well today and some of the backups looked good especially the younger guys. Said some of the younger guys who moved around had some issues today. Having Freddie Burden back healthy has helped a lot solidify that group. CPJ said Will Bryan is doing good things, Eason Fromayan made some plays at OT and Andrew Marshall is doing well there as well.

CPJ said it is interesting that they only have two seniors on offense, JT and Freddie.

No serious injuries so far, just bumps and bruises.

CPJ said he wishes JJ Green could have played last year and he is confident and has good ability.

CPJ said he is excited about the freshmen OL and that ALL THREE MAY PLAY this fall. "I think they will all be really good players and it is very unusual," Johnson said. "They are big strong and physical and they can play. Both Kenny and Braun are strong physical guys and Jahaziel is fluid and a great athlete though he missed practice today because he was sick. That doesn't mean they are going to start, but if they can get in the two-deep they are going to play.

CPJ said that Jahaziel Lee is playing OT, Parker Braun and Kenny Cooper are playing OG.

CPJ said the defense needs to get better, said scoring defense needs to improve and the rest takes care of itself. Said last year 3rd down defense was better, need to get back to two years ago creating turnovers and being better on offense as well.

CPJ said Shamire is doing well and has finished all the practices.

CTR said that Lance Austin is having a good camp along with Lawrence Austin. Both are playing well. Lawrence is pushing Corey Griffin at SS.

CTR said that Step Durham is working hard and Lamont Simmons behind Step is a good battle. Dorian Walker has changed his body some too and he is trying to hone in on CB and everyday is a learning experience and he is feeling more comfortable.

CTR said defensive installation is going fast. Learning the whole system and still installing and the guys are responding well. Fundamentals are a big part of that right now.

CTR said David Curry and Terrell Lewis are battling for a starting job at the SAM LB.

CTR said the MLB position is a big battle between Brant Mitchell and Chase Alford, said both have slimmed down body fat wise and Mitchell has more game experience gives him an early edge there.

CTR said PJ Davis is flying around better because he has lost body fat.

CTR said Tyler Cooksey is in better shape and competing now.

CTR said that AJ Gray is playing better now and is more used to the terminology.

CMP said that the DL depth is a good thing and there is a lot of leadership in the DL room now. The SRs like Rook, Pat and Francis are holding the others accountable for effort. Said he doesn't have to yell as much.

CMP said that the freshmen guys are working hard but a lot of guys in front of them. They don't understand the tempo yet and some of them are struggling with being corrected for the first time instead of just out athleting guys.

CMP said that Kyle is having a good camp, Glanton is coming along and he is not sure where they are yet until the scrimmage later this week. Looking for more consistency from that second group. Glanton is still working on his technique and being more detailed in what he does and same goes for the other young guys, being in the right position.

CMP is looking for leadership and Pat is the leader of the DL and that Francis Kallon is headed in the right direction to have a huge senior year. Francis knows they are counting on him so he has to do his part. CMP said the good things is those guys don't have to carry the whole load.

Francis Kallon said he will have a ton of family at the game in Ireland. Adam Gotsis has been talking to him a lot and getting him ready for the fall.
