ATLANTA- Georgia Tech's football team returned to the practice field on Monday in full pads after a day off following Saturday's scrimmage. Head coach Paul Johnson and some of his offensive players talked about how things went on Monday and recapped some of Saturday's scrimmage.

"It was okay and we got some things done, it was a little bit better than Saturday," Johnson said. "(On Saturday's practice) it was a typical first day in pads and there was some good and some bad things. I'm not going to single anyone out. There were some guys who made plays, but we are one day in pads and we've got a long way to go before we start handing out accolades."

One of the positions with the highest level of competition so far is nose tackle. The Jackets are rolling four players, Kyle Cerge-Henderson, Brentavious Glanton, Brandon Adams and Chris Martin right now. Johnson said he has been pleased with some of what he has seen from that group with two practices in full pads.

"It is hit and miss and some guys are better than others," Johnson said. "Kyle Henderson did pretty well on Saturday at nose. I thought Chris Martin did some good things, so it is a mixed bag."

They've moved Tyler Cooksey to OLB from ILB.

CPJ said they are moving around guys to the Stinger (OLB) position and strong safety, said it is a mirror position at times, those would be guys like Tariq Carpenter, Gentry Bonds, Kaleb Oliver and Avery Showell. Said they are rolling guys.

KirVonte Benson said he is taking the approach that he is not the starter and he is competing with Jerry Howard and Jordan Ponchez-Mason for the job. Said he is working on a lot of different areas where he needs improvement from last year or things he messed up. Said it was not satisfactory to have 100+ yards one game and 22 the next. He needs to be more consistent with his running.

From sources, a shuffle on the OL as they are playing Lee, Braun, Cooper, B. Morgan and Bryan as the ones and Quinney, Hansen/DeFoor, S. Morgan, Minihan/Tufele, Stick/Clark as the twos at times. Will appears to be back to OT again, I guess they are liking what Brad Morgan is doing or think that maybe DeFoor or Hansen will be better options than the options at OT.

CPJ said the entire offensive line is in competition except for LG Parker Braun, said Parker is the best OL on the team still.

Parker Braun said he has been working on his pass pro, said that is a big area of emphasis. CPJ said Parker needs to be more consistent and stay in control and his pass pro needs to be better.

CPJ said he hopes the OL improves overall, said Jahaziel Lee makes a jump up at LT.

CPJ on WRs still working on, said Brad Stewart has had a good camp, Jalen Camp is blocking well, Steve Dolphus has done some good things. CPJ said they could play 4-5 WRs. My sources say Dolphus is the 3rd WR right now, Camp is having a better camp, still needs to work on getting space on DBs to make plays and Brad Stewart has been playing better as well.

Lynch said that he is finally 100-percent healthy for the 1st time in almost two years, feels really good and was upset with level of play last year. Said it wasn't up to par.

Lynch said that Omahri Jarrett is having a good spring, said his blocking has improved, his routes are solid and his hands are good, thinks he is ready to play some real snaps. CPJ said that Xavier Gantt has been blocking well in camp.

CPJ said that Christian Campbell has more experience with AJ Gray and Jalen out he has been getting a lot of reps with the ones.
