Preparations for the Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate between Georgia Tech and Georgia began in Atlanta on Monday afternoon as the Jackets hit the practice field for the first time this week. Head coach Paul Johnson spoke about the challenge ahead and his frustrations after the Virginia game.

"It was good, a typical Monday and the last one," Johnson. "There was a lot of not paying attention to detail and little minor things that create problems. That is why I was frustrated after the game and I think our kids were frustrated when they watched it."

Johnson said that Marcus Marshall who has been putting up numbers at B-back will likely start with Dedrick Mills backing him up.

"I haven't decided, but I would expect Marcus to start," Johnson said. "Mills is good to go."

The players of the week were, Ricky Jeune (offense), Lance Austin (defense) and Jalen Johnson (special teams).

CPJ said that he can't comment on Jalen Johnson and Christian Campbell, but they are back from their suspensions.

CPJ said they've heard from many bowl games and it is unsettled until next week, said not sure how many teams that will be up and Clemson and Louisville and apparently Florida State may move up to a better bowl and will allow GT to move up.

CPJ said the team will have a team lunch and walk thru on Thursday and then the team will get turned loose.

CPJ said that Brant Mitchell and PJ Davis have been more productive at LB, said the DL is playing better and said the second half of UVA game was much better on defense, said they gave up a few too many yards in the first half and better on 3rd downs in the second half.

CPJ said he thinks the defense is getting pressure on straight rushes and got two on three-man pressure and mixing zone helped the ball come out less.

CPJ said that Jalen Camp has done a nice job, said he is playing well in practice and wants to see it in the game.

CPJ said that he expects to get Brad Stewart back, said Mikell Lands-Davis would probably start.

CPJ said that UGA is impressive and they pound the ball more now in the last few games and have stopped turning it over. CPJ said it was laughable that UGA doesn't have players, said maybe compared to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

CPJ said that UGA defense is multiple and GT struggled with it last week against UVA and expect UGA to line up the same way.

CPJ said that Ricky Jeune had a nice block on Marcus' long run and he has been more consistent blocking and has embraced it and he has done better with it. Said he has been consistent in the passing game as well.

CMP talked about coaching with Kirby at Valdosta State in 2000, they shared an office and are good friend to this day. Glad to see his success and said it wasn't surprising. Said he could see head coach potential in him and he has a passion for the game.

CMP said that Desmond Branch is improving overall and is being rewarded with more reps.

CMP said things haven't changed much upfront, said that everyone buying has made a difference over the last few games. Said the secondary cheers the DL on during pregame drills. Said sacks and interceptions are just making the most of their opportunities. Said guys are getting more confident and they know think they can get them.

CMP said that Antonio Simmons was sick of being told he couldn't play the run and has really taken responsibility for improving.

Pat Gamble, Brant Mitchell, Rodwell and Lance Austin all talked about how pissed they were watching UGA plant their flag in the field. Everyone of them said that is what sticks in their mind.

CTR talked about confidence being a factor along with the number of reps, fewer checks and playing more is why the defense is getting better. Said they have to get better, said they need to play their best this week.

CTR said he tunes out all press good and bad about the defense, said it is poison. Said you do right by the school and the kids and focus on that.

CTR said that KeShun Freeman and Anree Saint-Amour have done a nice job as standup LBs in passing downs over the last few weeks. Said CMP is really been a huge part of why that is working so well. Said that they will continue to work that in more.

Brant Mitchell said that the simplification of the defense is why he and the rest of the defense is playing better. Said they have less checks. Mitchell said he is excited about playing more of a downhill game this week, said linebackers enjoy that.
