Seems like the bye came at a good time and we are certainly beat up and get some guys a day off. We will see who is practicing and we will have a few guys back. GT-VaTech always hard fought and tough games and what we excepted.
MIKE SUMMERS
He quit, said he didn't want to play anymore. No indication, he will graduate in May.
PRACTICE
We practiced the last couple of days and then took some time off.
ON VATECH WITHOUT BEAMER
I can't imagine them without him, he has been there forever. He is a HOF and he accomplished so much, you wonder in today's world would they let him do that. He is more respected than anyone in our game.
ON BEAMER PERSONAL LEVEL
I got to know him more through golf and he has a home at Reynolds, he is a what you see is what you get and very competitive and he has always tried to do things the right way. He has build VaTech into something outstanding, it wasn't like that when he got there.
ON STEWART MOVING TO START
We will play and see, Antonio Messick, Brandon Oliver, too late in the year to play Harland Howell, we will put someone out there.
ON VATECH-GT GAMES HE REMEMBERS
I remember when we had them backed up and got a crazy penalty and lost the game. They looked like they got us beat, we come back and win.
ON BUD FOSTER
They have talent and he does a nice job adjusting and they are not afraid to blitz or play man coverage or zone blitz, you have to catch them or catch you, lot of room for big plays on both sides.
ON MATT JORDAN
He has a chance to play some, by feel. We need to get him in the game and he has practiced well and we need to play him,
ON VATECH OFFENSE
They have kind of run a mirad of offenses with the two QBs, now a combo of both, WR and TE are good players and the RB is a good player. The TE is good and Hodges is a hard matchup guy. We have to play better against the run.
ON AJ GRAY
We will see and will announce it Tuesday.
ON TIME OF POSSESSION
That is killing us right now. I evaluate things by series, we have to stop the run and do better on 3rd down, last Saturday we didn't, but against FSU we did. We got off the field, we kept the ball in the second half and we have to do both as a team to get.
ON SHAMIRE
He is good to go, he has been practicing.
ON VATECH BEING FIRED UP FOR BEAMER
I think they will be playing hard and a proud program with a lot of tradition and have to win two of three to get there. I've never seen them play without passion.
ON BOWL STREAK BEING A MOTIVATOR
I don't know, it is there and they are aware of it, didn't help much the last time we played. That stuff, all that stuff is the most overrated thing in CFB, once you get snot bubbled guys will play hard when they play hard, you play 11 times and I can't fathom why guys wont play hard. With everything involved you would think they would be amped up.
ON PLAYING AT HOME AT NIGHT
We played better against UNC and Pitt at home, Thursday night on National TV you hoped they would be geared up to play, every year but one the Coastal Division was decided by the winner, it is as big a rivalry game as we have had.
ON 5-7 BOWL TEAMS
Haven't thought about it.
ON GUYS REDSHIRTING THAT CATCH YOUR EYE ON SCOUT TEAM
All have and done good jobs, all done well, good class and well balanced and had to play too many of them too soon.
ON VATECH PLAYERS THAT STAND OUT
They had a lot of injuries. The DL looks good and they are good players, ROVER is a good player, offensively two good WRs and McMillan, same guys who have played.
ON JUSTIN HAVING TIME OFF TO HEAL
It has been physical and he has taken some shots and after 9 straight weeks anyone will be beat up and the linemen on both sides are beat up and it was good to give time off and we rested a lot of guys.
ON PRACTICE
Cross between Thursday and Wednesday practice and tomorrow will be a Thursday practice. We are through practicing in pads, we will be in shells.
ON THINKING ABOUT THIS YEAR
You try to take one game at a time, that is what I try to do. I haven't gone through a year like this, I'm not going to quit and the majority of our guys won't quit either. Our freshmen don't know any different and I'm sure it is frustrating for them. Don't believe everything you hear and you forget how you got there. Having said that ifs and butts and you could make a case for it to be 6-3 instead of 3-6, wouldn't be very hard.
ON IMPRESSIVENESS OF THE PAST GLORY WHEN YOU HAVE A TOUGH YEAR
Winning is hard, watch college football on Saturday. Outside of 10-12 teams, anyone can beat anyone, the margin is razor thin. If things don't go well or you don't get a break, teams can't overcome that, very few teams can. That is what makes it great, if you knew who would win every time, it wouldn't be exciting. You win 11 games and a BCS game and the in-state rival hasn't happened a lot here, but it is our goal EVERY YEAR. Fans are fans and want to win every week and that is their right. I heard a guy say this weekend one of the players talking about the Heisman race and the best advice was don't listen to the complaints or complements. All you can do is the best you can, no one wants to win more than the coaches and players. You have to put it behind you and move to the next week.
