JHey is getting 184 M over 8 years from the Cubs. Money in baseball is beyond out of control. I haven't looked up his career stats but its incredible they earned him this contract. I know he plays D and runs bases well.Congrats to him. Surprised Epstein would offer an 8 year deal, crazy IMO.
Consider this, Chipper Jones, a first ballot hall of famer to be, earned 15M/yr on his last deal (IIRC) compared to the 23M JHey gets. Chipper was a career 300 hitter from both sides of plate, MVP, WS champ, did it the right way during the ROID era, etc. JHey will not come close to that. Maybe a WS. That wasn't long ago. Baseball is certainly the pro team sport to get paid. Money is guaranteed compared to Football where only the signing bonus is guaranteed. Journeymen lifetime 230-240 hitters are getting 3-5M/yr. Unbelievable, pitching money is even more.
