Despite the fact I got at 3:45 am last night and had to take my child to daycare and go to GT this morning, I've stayed active working sources along with my staff.
Georgia Tech coach Damon Stoudamire has a clear profile on what he is looking for with his assistant coaches and he has approached names at various levels both high-major and guys who are up-and-coming. He wants to build a staff of guys that want to elevate GT basketball and elevate themselves into head coaching jobs. This is what Hewitt did when things were working well at GT and what most top programs expect. Stoudamire is a big believer in the Brad Stevens model where the HC is the CEO of the program and having that mindset as well.
The expected hire that I've confirmed is likely to happen is Pershin Williams who is an assistant coach at Kennesaw State and a former Georgia Tech GA under Paul Hewitt. He was on Charlton Young's staff at Georgia Southern (09-13) as well. He is from Columbus, GA, and played for Columbus State for three years and then at North Florida. He has a degree from North Florida and worked on a master's at Georgia State so he is really connected to multiple in-state programs. He left Columbus State for KSU when Amir Abdur-Rahim got the head coaching job and has been on his bench since then but is not his lead assistant there.
