What we know
Sep. 3 vs Boston College (7:30amET kickoff) at Dublin, Ireland
*The Eagles boast the top defense in the nation and will have ample time to prep for our funky offense. In case you are wondering like I was, they only start 3 seniors on this year's defense and only have 2 others on 2nd string, so they'll return 17 of their 22-deep on the defense next year. Offense has been where they are woeful this year. They start 5 seniors on that side of the LOS.
Sep. 10 vs Mercer at home
*First meeting ever between the 2 schools you may say? Not true. In fact, the first Georgia Tech football game in our illustrious history was played against the Bears. The Boys From Macon defeated our beloved Jackets, 12-6. I am pretty sure after that game, Tech fans started complaining about traffic, parking, scorching temperatures, kids' soccer games, public transportation being scary, and the like. That 1892 loss is Tech's only loss in the series. We are 13-1-1 against the Bears. The last game played in the series was in 1938. Tech shutout the Bears in 9 of the last 10 games and won the other one, 16-6. Of course, Mercer dropped its football program for many decades. With a father who played both baseball and hoops at Mercer in the 50's, I look forward to this game with him. It will be good to have a relatively easy game in Week 2 considering the travel, jet lag, lost practice time, etc., that likely will result regarding returning from Ireland.
Sep. 17 vs Vanderbilt at home
*We lead the series with Vandy, 19-15-3. We've won 11 of the last 12 and the other one was a tie 10-10 back in '65. We stopped the series in '67, but have beaten the Land Locked Tennessee Naval Commanders 3 times over the last 13 years...most recently 56-31 in Nashville in Admiral Johnson's second year in command.
Nov. 19 vs Georgia Southern at home
*This will be Senior Day for JT5 and others. The only game ever played between these two was of course the exciting win in Week 3 of 2014 where Tech almost pissed away what was looking like a blowout win at halftime. Should be another good one with a sold out crowd. I like this series and hope we continue to play GSU. Get fannies in seats.
Nov. 26 at Cesspool
*Jackets return to the scene of the steal from '14. Let's hope we are on a rare 2-game winning streak and perhaps the Cesspool has a new HC. You never know. If we beat them 3 years in a row, I am pretty sure there will be a new HC there. We need to do our part.
What we'll find out in early February
Home:
Duke - we've lost 2 in a row to them now...that sucks!
Clemson - the Tigers haven't won on Grant Field since 2003 (5 straight wins at home for the Good Guys)...home team has now won 7 straight in the series
Virginia - since the upset loss in CPJ's first year in 2008, Tech has handled the French pretty well at home...will France be under a new leader?
Miami - well, we know the Canes will have a new HC...hopefully the Jackets are on a 2-game winning streak in the series
Road:
Virginia Tech - Beamer will be replaced...Tech has a chance next week to win consecutive games over the Turkey Buzzards for the first time ever...let's hope we are shooting for a 3-game winning streak when we trek to the Southwest Virginia cow pastures in '16
North Carolina - see Duke above...SUCKS!
Pittsburgh - a fun trip for any of you who haven't made it...will Boyd head to the NFL draft a year early as most expect?...will James Conner be back or head to the NFL early as well?
