Notre Dame starting tight end Durham Smythe's status is uncertain for next Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech, Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly said Sunday.
Smythe, a redshirt sophomore, suffered an ankle injury late in the Irish’s 34-27 win Saturday at Virginia.
“Durham Smythe has got an ankle, and he’s probably the one guy that we’re not sure about his status going in, but everybody else looks to be a go for Saturday,” Kelly said during a teleconference.
Smythe started the past two games for Notre Dame, catching one pass in each of them, for 6 yards and 7 yards, respectively. The 7-yard grab against the Cavaliers was a touchdown catch on the first drive of the game, off a fake field-goal attempt, with holder/quarterback DeShone Kizer completing the pass.
