Georges-Hunt Named Third-Team All-ACC
Tech senior ranks in ACC top 10 in scoring, FG percentage and FT percentage vs. conference teams
Greensboro, N.C. – Georgia Tech’s Marcus Georges-Hunt has been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference third team by a vote of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association, the ACC announced Sunday afternoon.
Georges-Hunt, a senior from College Park, Ga., ranks seventh in the ACC in scoring average overall (16.6 points per game) and fifth against the conference (18.1). He also ranks in the top 10 in free throw percentage (81.3 percent) for the season and has shot 48.6 percent from the floor in ACC games, which also ranks among the league’s top 10 players.
The 6-5 guard has scored in double figures in 25 of 31 games this season, and has scored 20 or more points in 11 games (fifth-most in the ACC). He was moved into Tech’s starting point guard role for the latter part of the ACC schedule and leads the Jackets in assists in ACC games. His performance has been a key factor in the Yellow Jackets winning six of their last eight games to finish the regular season 18-13, Tech’s best record since 2009-10, and the ACC schedule 8-10, the most ACC wins since 2006-07.
He has risen to 12th place on Tech’s all-time scoring list this season with 1,642 points, leaping over 23 Yellow Jacket stars since the beginning of the season. He also has entered the Tech top 10 in career free throws and free throws attempted.
The Yellow Jackets have drawn the 10thseed in this week’s New York Life ACC Tournament, and will face No. 7 Clemson at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
ACC Player of the Year Malcolm Brogdon of Virginia led the 2015-16 ACSMA post-season basketball awards and all-conference team announced. Brogdon, who was also voted the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, was named the overall ACC Player of the Year by 38 of the 51 ACSMA members casting ballots. The group also chose Duke’s Brandon Ingram as the ACC Freshman of the Year.
Miami’s Jim Larrañaga was voted the ACC Coach of the Year, while North Carolina junior Isaiah Hicks earns recognition as Sixth Man of the Year. Clemson junior Jaron Blossomgame was voted the ACC’s Most Improved Player.
Brogdon and North Carolina senior Brice Johnson are unanimous choices to the All-ACC first team. They are joined by NC State junior Anthony “Cat” Barber, Duke sophomore Grayson Allen and Clemson’s Blossomgame.
Syracuse’s Michael Gbinije, Miami’s Sheldon McClellan, Notre Dame’s Demetrius Jackson, Louisville’s Damion Lee and Duke’s Ingram comprise the ACSMA All-ACC second team.
Georges-Hunt was joined on the third team by Virginia’s Anthony Gill, Notre Dame’s Zach Auguste, Pitt’s Michael Young and Miami’s Angel Rodriguez.
