I'd say Clemson. They've beaten 3 straight ranked teams including a win at Syracuse. This is a different team obviously than the one the Cesspool crushed back right before Christmas.

Border War heating up in Durham. 11 minutes to go and the kids from the Empire State have taken a 1 pt lead over their neighbors from Jersey. Could Rutgers-Durham lose a 2nd straight home conference game...and third in a row?

Fun start to the week. Great game by the Orange. NY > NJ by 2

There was some great defense being played on both sides down the stretch in Durham. That was fun to watch.

Amen to that, brotha! Watching the court awareness, passing to find open looks, guys driving and dishing...just fun basketball the way college ball used to be and now is returning. Are we the only team who still deploys 2 guys who spend 95+% of their time in the paint area?

Pretty classless of Ratface as both teams were walking through shaking hands, he dissed part of the backend of the Cuse players' line not shaking their hands, but instead appeared to want to take off to run for the refs to cry about not getting a call at the end before I guess they got away to the tunnel.

Check it out...

FWIW, point spreads for Tuesday night...

-Clemson getting a whopping 10 at Virginia
-NC State getting 8.5 at Pitt

A weekly look at how Tech's OOC opponents are doing...(RPI in parenthesis)...looks like only 2 teams (Nova & VCU) in the March Madness picture at the moment...ETSU with a decent chance to make noise at the SoCon Tournament.

VCU (71): 13-5 overall, 5-0 A-10 (leading A-10)...hosting Duquesne Wed 1/20 and hosting St. Bonaventure Sat 1/23

Cesspool (74): 9-6 overall, 2-3 SEC... at Mizzou Wed 1/20 and home vs Arkansas Sat 1/23

Tennessee (79): 9-8 overall, 2-3 SEC... host Vandy Wed 1/20 and host South Carolina Sat 1/23

Arkansas (104): 9-8 overall, 3-2 SEC... host Kentucky Thu 1/21 and travel to Cesspool Sat 1/23

SE Louisiana (343): 3-15 overall, 1-4 Southland... defeated Lamar Mon 1/18, no more games this week

Point spreads for Wednesday night...

Hokies +12 at Irish
Deacs +16 at Cheaters
Noles +9.5 at Cards
Canes -15 at Eagles

I guess we hit Pitt at the wrong time. What is going on with them? They barely got into the 40's at Louisville this past weekend. Now, the Pack is leading them AT PITT, 30-11, with a little over 5 minutes left in the first half.

WOW!

NC State (0-5 in the ACC) shoots 58.1% from the field, 62.5% from outside the arc, and 3 of 3 from the FT line to take a halftime lead at Pitt, 44-19. Pitt shot 7 of 28 (25%) from the field.

Amazing...as Ratface would say.

With some forecasts topping 3' of snow in God's Country, it will be interesting to see if the Cuse-France game is played Saturday at noon as scheduled. My guess is no. Well, if the storm is as bad as most are predicting right now. Cuse would have to get into town Thursday instead of the normal day-before on Friday.

The only other weekend game to keep an eye on I think may be the Sunday night game of UNC at Va Tech. Likely that is OK assuming the roads are cleaned off enough.

Duke-NCSU on Saturday afternoon could be affected as well I guess, though they are pretty close to one another. Was it last year the Dukies made the Cheaters mad because they had to move back the game in Chapel Hell due to winter weather and the "you're only 8 miles away" argument was thrown out back at them?

Cheaters crush the Deacs as expected, but the Irish are glad to have skimmed by at home with a 2 pt win over Buzz's Blacksburg Crew.

I expected a close game with ND VPI. But I expected ND to pull away more at the end of the game. VPI falls back a bit. But Clemson continues to win. They are off this weekend so they get to watch UNC @ VPI. Will VPI knock UNC off the top?

As expected, Syracuse-French game Saturday has been postponed and rescheduled. Also, the French @ Wake game Monday night has been moved back a day to Tuesday.

(I may be off the grid over the weekend power and IP availability pending...ugh!...calling for 24"+ starting around lunch tomorrow...UGH!)

Damn that is a lot of snow. How you have a few cases of beer. ( I know you do your GTJT :) )

25 cases in the garage attached to the double wide, mate. Always have to take care of the essentials in times like these. You know, beer...toilet paper...slim jims...beer...chips...salsa...and beer.

Good I knew you were smart. Here is hoping the toilet paper is 3 Ply.

Side note...very happy for the Fighting Mark Prices tonight. Charlotte defeated Marshall, 103-95. Marshall was 5-0 in Conference USA heading into the game while Mark's bunch was tied for the basement.

Charlotte's record is very deceiving. They are improving though they are now 5-13 overall (and 2-4 in CUSA).

After starting the season 1-8 against a very difficult opening schedule, these are their results in their last 9 games starting with tonight's result and working backwards...

Win over Marshall by 8
Lost to UAB by 2
Lost to Middle Tennessee by 1
Lost at Louisiana Tech by 3 in overtime
Win at Southern Miss by 6
Lost by 9 at Old Dominion
Win over The Citadel by 18
Lost to Georgetown by 3
Win at Appy State by 16

Rooting hard for Mark. His son, Hudson, transferred in and will be eligible next year after having to sit out one season. Kinda cool that both Noodles and Mark are D1 HC's and both have their sons playing for them. (Cullen Neal, back from injury this year, is averaging 14.4 ppg FWIW)

Seems like he's perfecting his record to fit in with GT's recent results. All those close conference losses seem familiar.

While it isn't like I have a vote or a choice - and, the choice may already be made whether we like it or not - I'd be willing to ride out a couple of more years of CBG's ineptness and get closer to having him and Hewitt off the books (or as minimal as possible), while Mark gets a couple more years under his belt. Then, he becomes our HC. I don't really care if he fails miserably as HC at Tech. It isn't like we've been a powerhouse or even relevant over the last decade. I'd just love to see Mark Price leading our program. The guy is a winner. I think he'll have the 49ers playing really well by March.

I don't know about Bobinski and his thoughts on Price, but I think you are correct on CBG. Bobinski isn't planning to make a move until the Hewitt debt is gone. If the team completely collapses then that may force his hand.

Of course if GT fans would step up and donate to retire the Hewitt debt then Bobinski can move sooner, but I don't see that happening either.

Agree. But, looking on the bright side, we have a great arena to watch crappy basketball in.

;)

Syracuse is hoping to fly out Sunday morning to get to Charlottesville some time so their game Sunday night will go off as rescheduled. Might not happen.

Sunday night's Cheaters game at Blacksburg has been rescheduled from Sunday night up to 3pm Sunday. Live broadcast will be via ESPN-3 with taped showing at 6:30pm on ESPN-U (originally scheduled time & TV slot).

If you have ESPN-3, really good game going on right now in Blacksburg. Cheaters up by 3 with 5 1/2 to go.
