Matt Wieters article mentions Tech, Braves, Atlanta

The Braves have the third pick in the first round, and it is protected. They would lose their next pick if Baltimore gives him a QO, he rejects that, then signs w/Atlanta. MLB Trade Rumors got things reversed on Texas' interest. Substantial reports say they will not give up a draft pick for Matt. The O's don't want to come away empty handed, so this could get interesting if LA and Seattle get involved later on in the offseason. He might end up with closer to the 15 m., one-year contract that the Birds are not wanting to pay or him to accept.

FWIW, Scott Boras has several clients with the Nats, but they claim no interest with Weiters. More focused on Wilson Ramos, et al.

Per Peter Gammons:

The Braves will not pursue catcher Matt Wieters, Peter Gammons of GammonsDaily.com tweets. Atlanta has appeared at least to be a plausible landing spot, depending perhaps on what they decide with youngster Christian Bethancourt, but Gammons’ sources certainly make that possibility seem unlikely. Wieters received a qualifying offer today, so a signing team would need to sacrifice a draft pick to add him, though Atlanta’s top choice is protected.

As a diehard Braves fan, it is sad to admit that if I were Wieters I'd avoid the Braves if he is interested in winning. The Braves likely continue to be a dumpster fire for the near future. Losing in a shiny new building reminds one of our MBB program.

The Braves signed A.J. Pierzynski last night. Seems that eliminates them from the Wieters front. Also, the Twins pulled off a major trade for a catcher ready to make a splash from the Yankees.
