Has anyone ever asked CPJ if he would stand on the sideline with a Waffle House menu just to F with the tv announcers?
No, but that would be funny. I remember one game he had a credential on his belt and some moron color guy kept saying it was his playsheet. He was just fidgeting with it on the sideline.
If you had to guess right now, who do you think fills out our basketball class for 19?
I don't make uneducated guesses about that stuff, other than Marcus Watson I don't see a GT lean.
How are some of the dinged WRs doing - Dolphus, Sanders, etc.
Sanders is rehabbing, not sure when he will be ready, my guess is maybe around Louisville, but I'll try to remember to get an update from PJ this week.
How is Jaylend Ratliffe doing? He and AJ cross paths much?
Yeah, Jaylend is in the coach's box during games, he charts plays and does other stuff for the team and has since he was able to start school a few years ago.
I am worried that cpj is not going to get james graham or the two a backs at least 4 games. Should i?
I don't think they are going to play Donate Smith. Graham I expect to see sometime in October once he has a hang of what he is doing. Whatley is the emergency guy at A-back so if anyone goes down he is probably going to play so if not they'll play him later in the year.
Can you provide insight as to the criteria CPJ uses when identifying potential QB recruits? Aside from the academic capabilities, good character/leadership etc...and more to the skill set? Makes sense that he’s looking for kids who run similar option offenses but are there speed, strength, agility type thresholds? Accumulation of rushing yards or passing yard in HS? Is it purely evaluation based, whether HS film, in person at games or workouts on campus? We’ve heard him say he’d throw it more if they could throw it better and have consistent pass protection.Wondering how much weight is given to passing skills or stats in recruiting. Vad is the only incoming recruit I recall being labeled as a quality passer, might have been others that slip my mind.
So what they look for is toughness, quickness, enough physical size to take hits and at least a decent arm. Believe it or not they've passed on guys who couldn't throw it well enough. Sometimes they take a guy with an eye toward moving him to another spot with a bit of a longshot to play QB. Demond Smith was one of those for example. They will use the 5th QB spot often for those type of ATH types. The rest they expect to compete at QB, but they want guys who are athletic enough to play another position if it doesn't work out like David Sims or Synjyn Days for example. Even a guy like Lucas Johnson was earmarked a as potential WR if it didn't work out.
I’m more interested in knowing if measurables and stats play into his process. I hear Saban won’t recruit DB’s that don’t meet certain height requirements, he has a prototype he recruits. Anything similar to that at GT? Question was originally only about the QB, any positions recruited in this manner? Thanks.
Stats aren't a huge deal, obviously the HS QB is going to be productive, so you want someone who doesn't fumble or throw many INTs. Size wise there are guys who are too small or too short. Anything under 5'10" is a no unless they are blazing fast like JT.
Do you think the positions on defense are pretty set, or will guys still get moved around?
They are set for now, I think they've moved around about all they are going to move around until next spring barring injuries at a key position. The DL will shuffle some but that is by design.
If you could pick the recruits to finish out our class who would you want.
Another OL, Pettway and Glenn.
You covered UGA and went to school there right? If so, were you a UGA fan? and when did you start to liking GT? how did covering GT come about for you?
I've answered this many times on here. You just weren't around for it. I grew up in Athens and my parents worked at UGA. They hated the football program and we followed the University of Texas where they went to grad school for football. I went to UGA because I couldn't afford Penn or Boston University which were my two other options at the time. I had a brother and cousins knee deep in student loan debt so I went to UGA. I enjoyed covering UGA, I wasn't a fan, I didn't dislike them or Tech or Auburn or really any school. My high school was like that as well, lots of children of faculty and most wanted to get away and only a fraction did. Funny part was our FB coach who is a legend in this state was always mad at UGA because they would pass on talented kids in their own backyard. About nine guys I played with signed somewhere and only two went to UGA and one was the son of a football staffer.
I've enjoyed the student athletes better at GT, there were a few guys at UGA when I covered them that I thought would slit my throat for a C-note if they could get away with it, so GT is little more civilized.
Do you know if we have looked at Xavier Roberts at Rome as possible A Back. He lit it up Friday night.
Not taking another A-back right now. I'm sure he is on the radar, but they are probably full. They'd want a guy who could play A or B not just an A-back.
Was at Dutchtown v Union Grove tonight. Any indications from DHS #11 Glen? Played well and looked athletic. Handful on their D looked good. #8 on O was jackrabbit quick, any word on him? My kids went to UG when the team was good, GT had a string of kids from UG, Kyle Jackson, Steven Sylvester, Anthony Williams & DJ White. All had solid careers at GT, except for Ant, hated it didn’t work out for him. Any current UG players on the board? None stood out tonight.
Kevon Glenn, he is very hard to get a read on. I don't know if GT is pushing that hard, they are in the mix, but Mizzou and Miss State are pushing the hardest.
What advantages does Pitt have over Tech in football? The only one i can think of is more majors to choose from so I wanted to ask. Atlanta >>> Pittsburgh IMO, GT has more recent success, GT in better recruiting territory, GT stadium is more full.
None, I thought the better team lost on Saturday and that was what most of the Pitt people thought as well.
GT lost a tough game in 2016 at Pitt and it was the third straight loss. Then GT lost only once again. What do you think changed after that loss to turn the season around?
Justin Thomas and the senior leadership of that team kind of buckled down. JT started being more decisive with his runs and they also got healthier other than the VaTech game. That is still a headscratcher how they won that one.
Did GT recruit Nick Fitzgerald (from Richmond Hill Ga)who is now at Miss State and if so where was he on the QB recruit list?
Yeah they were on him early, never offered because of a bunch of reasons. I believe he fancied himself a pocket QB for a while.
Okay. It is 4th quarter about 3 minutes to go. We at our own 1 yard line after the offsides penalty. Marshall runs around the out side and gets first down. My question is why did the clock never stop? It should have at least stopped to move the chains but use to it would have stopped because he went out of bounds and not started til ball snapped. What is the deal?
Well if he went out of bounds got a first down and the clock kept moving that is wrong. Once the ball is spotted the clock starts unless you are inside 2 minutes.
Does CPJ quit after getting steamrolled by Clemson next week?
Who will we look into hiring next year?
As a fan is this crap we see acceptable?
Why the heck does CPJ keep TM in the game?
Why does 4 good seasons constitute you as a successful coach?
Who can save the program?
No, no idea, yes you should for now, no idea, because most of the ACC would kill to win more than one division title let alone have gone to two OBs and three ACCCGs, I don't think anyone needs to save anything.
Do you think Stansbury can have the juice to make a good hire and open the checkbook? I have no doubt he's gonna try his best but can be get the funds to get a hire can make this team one to atleast feel like we aren't an embarrassed fanbase?
If and when there is a coaching change, there will be money to hire the next guy. All good ADs are prepared for that either way because you never know what is going to happen and football is important to the budget and health of the program. They won't be hiring a Brian Gregory of football whenever that happens.
No, but that would be funny. I remember one game he had a credential on his belt and some moron color guy kept saying it was his playsheet. He was just fidgeting with it on the sideline.
