What's the new updateson where we stand with some of our remaining top targets?
WR- Steve Dolphus wants his brother to go with him somewhere, if he won’t let go of that he is headed to a non-P5 school like Troy because those are the only schools that can take his brother.
ATH- Jair Hawkins-Anderson- Turned off both Cincy and GT coaches with his comments last week, he has been told by both schools he can’t commit right now. They may show some mercy on the kid later, but he was a stretch offer for both based on what’s out there.
AB- Tyler Simmons- nothing much going on there, Bama is the team to beat.
WR- Demetris Robertson- is going to Bama and may take Simmons’ spot, but he is supposed to OV to GT the last weekend of recruiting.
OL- Parker Braun- nothing going on right now.
OL- Donavaughn Campbell- Is a long play, but Christian is very happy at GT and they would get at least four years together, that is a huge draw.
OL- Scott Lashley- quieted down for the time being until coaches hit the road. GT is in the mix.
DT- Michail Carter- GT is a backup plan for him, he is waiting to see what happens with some other targets.
CB- Baylen Buchanan- GT still in the mix.
CB- Troy Pride- Will OV to GT, don’t expect much news until then unless Beamer leaves/quits.
S- Romeo Finley- talked with CPJ recently, expect an OV from him in the fall.
Any detail on the Summers injury? Often seems coaches say "will be back by week X" and we don't see the kid until 3 or 4 weeks later.
Nope, I haven’t seen him out there either so I’m not sure of the severity, but you have that backward, CPJ over estimates injury times typically not under.
Whats your take on looking more closelyat high school heavy weight wrestlers as DL potential candidates--remember Joe Anoia?
They have looked at guys like that before and those guys are typically highly recruited because they are flexible. Short of finding another Francis Kallon type in a HS, I’m not sure that will happen.
Are we still recruiting TaDarryl Marshall or did that ship sail with his commitment to UT?
I wouldn’t be shocked to see him come to a game, but his academics are so dicey anyway I don’t see it happening.
Maybe you'll cover this in the upcoming War Room, who is #3 QB and top 4 ABs going into game prep?
The number three quarterback has been Chase Martenson all camp. Matthew Jordan would get a look in a game if needed sort of like Synjyn Days a few years ago and then Christian Campbell would probably travel if one got hurt ahead of them. Top 4 A-backs other than Qua Searcy and Broderick Snoddy, the depth hasn’t been set yet. I expect Ike Willis and Clinton Lynch to be the first four into the game, but that doesn’t mean much. It will be on the field performance that will dictate it and I think they will play six early in the year with Jordan, MLD and TaQuon Marshall fighting for those two spots.
JT is told to "be more selfish", so the ball will be in his hands even more. Bet here is opposing DCs plan to swarm JT, let others beat them if they can. One UGA player said (WTE) "we were coached to hit Thomas and keep hitting him". What is staff thinking about the pounding he's likely to take? Long, long season.
They don’t want him to get hit anymore, I don’t think you all realize he gets hit sometimes when he doesn’t have the ball anyways, it is about keeping it and running. They think he can take it, but I think you will see more Byerly on goal line going forward.
Don't expect any answer, but what's wrong with three JOL luncheons a year? Football centric. Don't make them frequent so they'll be special. At times of peak fan interest. One a week before LOI Wednesday in February. A second a week after spring practice ends. The third a week or two before toe meets leather in the Fall? Too much or what?
Whiskey and I will talk about it. It depends on how things go this coming week with it. So far we have both been pleased with the interest level.
If we ran our spread option at anybody in a Hurry Up mode the other D would melt into the ground after the third series. Why don't we? Concern that jumping offsides puts us behind schedule or CPJ's comfort (and effectiveness) with a thoughtful, deliberate chess match, or what?
Have you thought about what happens to the OL and other skill positions when you go up tempo like that. Mental mistakes happen and then you end up in 1st and 15 or whatever. Slowing things down has frustrated other teams so much, why mess with that. You need basically to be able to roll a whole new OL each series and be two or three strong at each skill spot with how much contact and cutting goes on in this offense IMO.
Going way back to 2014 with this question: Did we ever find out why GT let go of Dave Walkosky?
He was not truthful about something to cover up a buddy who was in trouble for misappropriating funds and therefore was let go. It was a simple decision given the gravity of the attempted cover up. Nice guy though.
The N Metro Club's annual series of Lunch Bunch luncheons kicks off 8/31 with Mbob the speaker. Will you be attending, and if so be able to post some highlights for those of us unable to attend?
Not sure, will let you know.
With the bizzaro commit of Jailyn to FAU do you see our staff continue to push for him? Maybe get CBG involved more since bball seems to be higher priority?
He is dead average as a basketball recruit and he could have walked on for hoops. He doesn’t have the heart for football, it was that simple. He always told me he wanted to play hoops first. I think he got some terrible advice from his former coach who is at FAU now as well regarding what he is as a basketball player.
Do you think we are still recruiting Victor viramontes? See us getting a visit from him?
Yes and probably not. He seems very happy with Michigan.
