Any feedback regarding Bbacks, Skov? Is Gary Brown in the mix or has he tapped out?
Marcus Marshall is the starter and Skov is a close second, Marcus Allen is number three and has been banged up as well. Gary Brown is gonna end up on scout team for game one unless he lights up the scrimmage. His back is bothering him as well and he has missed several practices.
In your opinion, who do you think is the best position coach (best at coaching players up, not factoring in other things like recruiting, , etc...) at GT, the ACC, college football?
Xs and Os it might be Mike Sewak or Bryan Cook on offense and Andy McCollum on defense.
If Chris griffin wasn't injured how would the starting lineup for the OL look?
LT- Chamberlain
LG- Braun
C- Burden
RG- Devine
RT- Joe
I still don't think Chris was going to beat out the other OTs. Shamire has also done better this week.
What do you hear of the status of Smelter, Shaq, Waller, Johnson, Nealy, Laskey, Days?
Smelter is still recovering from his knee and is not travelling with the team. Shaq Mason started for the Pats yesterday in the preseason game and at worst will be a backup guard and center. Isaiah is kind of buried on the Lions roster and will probably end up getting cut or put on the practice squad. Quayshawn may make it, his is third team MIKE LB for the Seahawks. Laskey not looking good at making the roster in St. Louis. Synjyn got cut by Dallas, but Tennessee is looking at him.
Jacket Nation is punchy with theories of: a) Abacks and WRs who can't block resulting in a mediocre O, to b) CPJ playing mind games to provoke team commitment, to c) CPJ having post nasal drip, as the cause(s) of the pre-season doggie downer vibe from the Head Shed. Your take???
They can't block, it's not games, but they have three weeks to figure it out and will.
Usually it takes multiple practices, even many weeks or months, for a player to jump from 3rd/4th string to first. Marshall does it in less than a week. WTH? Is he the second coming of Eddie Lee Ivery or is his competition not that good (good but not that good by comparison)?
Marshall is doing pretty well, don't expect Jon Dwyer out of the box though. Not sure on comparisons yet.
Your best guess:
Chances we start 5-0? Maybe 60% or less.
Who wins the Coastal? I still think either Georgia Tech or Miami will win it.
Does Tech beat the mutts this year? I think that game is always a coin flip, UGA has a better defense, but the offense could be a mess.
Who starts at RG to start the season? Shamire Devine and Andrew Marshall platoon
Do they start all year? Probably
Is CPJ playing media games or is he really more frustrated than last year when he bragged on the team's work ethic and chemistry everY day?
He is always trying to keep things in check, but yeah he is frustrated with his offense right now and they will have to have a more varied approach.
* I've always thought Lance Austin would make a good A-back with his compact build, aggressive style and ability with the ball in his hands. With him battling for a backup cornerback role, has the staff considered moving him over?
CPJ won't move someone who is in the two-deep to another position. If they were going to move the twins they would have done that instead of MLD.
* As an A-back, will MLD's rushing ability remind folks more of Anthony Allen or Charles Perkins? Do you see this as a permanent move for MLD?
Yes, he is probably destine to stay at A-back and he is very similar to pre-injury Charles Perkins, good hands, tough runner and physical. If he can pick up the blocking he could end up starting at A-back before the end of the year.
* Has a final decision been made on whether Kirvonte Benson will enroll in August and start his clock?
He will arrive on campus tomorrow to move-in and he should be ready to go in the spring.
* Earlier this recruiting cycle, we reportedly slow played Brittain Brown. Admittedly, I was an advocate of taking Brown because of his talent and versatility. How does his game differ from a recruit like Jair Hawkins-Anderson that we're now targeting?
Different sides of the ball, Jair will end up at corner more likely than offense.
Will Brad Stewart and Philpott play or neither?
Stewart may start, Philpott is on the bubble because of numbers despite missing so much time.
What is going on with Tyler Cooksey, haven't seen his name mentioned since practice started.
Not ready yet and at a stacked position with a legit starter Tyler Marcordes and maybe the best backup LB Terrell Lewis.
Any feedback on the Morgan twins? Does it look like Scott will stay on the DL or is he better suited for the OL?
Scott is not going anywhere yet, both are going to the scout team for seasoning. Brentavious Glanton is the only true freshmen DL that is going to probably play this year.
Who has been the talk of the camp with their improvement or development this year?
Marcus Marshall, Brad Stewart and Shaun Kagawa.
Are the coaches really comfortable going 6 deep on the interior of the DLine?
Yes, but it won't be six deep, only five will dress, Kyle Henderson is the bubble guy.
