Will we every have another QB like Nesbit who can put the team on his back when nothing is clicking? I know JT is special but Nesbit would put is head down and get the yards we needed everytime even if the blocking broke down

Josh Nesbitt was certainly a special QB like a bulldozer on the field. The guy they recruited to do that was unfortunately Jaylend Ratliffe and we saw what happened to that kid in his accident. Jordan has a little bit of that in him, he is a tough kid but he needs to find his confidence in game situations to earn the confidence of the staff.

Really interested to know if any of our basketball targets are thinking 'Georgia Tech'.

Alex Barcello, Garrison Brooks, Chaundee Brown, Herb Jones are the main ones I keep hearing about GT being strongly in the mix with. Collin Sexton and Wendell Carter are both long shots, but GT could make both kid's top 3.

Any reason to believe we will get any football commitments soon? if so, who is close to committing?

I mean they got three commits in the last week and a half. It is not exactly a dry spell. It is a smaller class so the main spots left are 2 DTs, 1 LB, 1 S/CB, 1 QB/ATH so it is going to be a little slower especially with the LB and S/CB spots because they are aiming high on those with guys like Leonard Warner and Gentry Bonds.

Any incoming freshmen look particularly strong or athletic? Ready to contribute this year?

I've heard good things about Parker Braun, Jalen Camp and Jordan Woods on how they look. It is a huge jump to competing as a true freshman though.

Best students among football squad?

No idea, I mean I don't closely follow their academic exploits but several of the guys were on the honor roll or Dean's list or whatever they call it at GT. It's not really my thing to follow.

Learned today that Grant Field turf no longer the top quality of just a year or so ago. The use for concerts, etc tears it up and our groundskeeper was told not to resod but to resprig. Consequently it was an embarrassment for the camps and will be in lousy shape for the season. In college football your field is your living room showcase. Who oversees this?

The groundskeepers and they get a budget from MBob's staff. I have no clue but it did look like crap when I was on it in mid-July at the camp. It was basically like the edge of a sand-trap on a golf course. Pinching pennies probably.

Not a question but something I learned which was most upsetting. Passing it along. That is, Susan Phinney died last month. Old farts will appreciate hearing. She was Curry's secretary who was key to recruiting, rose up through A-T ranks and, to me, the heart of The Edge for years.

Thanks for that.

I read knowledgeable posters on here talk about how inflated our program heights and weights are. That beside big boy teams like ND, Clem and UGA on the field we look like middle school beside high school. Then I read where our S&D guys are shaving body fat and pounds off of our boys so we can play faster. Confused. Your take?

The heights and weights are correct mostly. They only get updated at certain times. All schools "fluff" them sometimes including UGA.

Who do you feel could pop as the next commitments?

Leonard Warner is the only one with an offer that I think is close to pulling the trigger today, but they are hitting up some new linemen so that could change.

How are the incoming freshman looking?

Fine, they do individual and seven-on-seven workouts so we don't hear a ton about that stuff because the players want to keep it quiet.

How is the WR unit coming along?

They aren't getting instruction from CBP so it is just route tree learning from the other players. There is not much to report.

What's you first meal and drink in Ireland?

Bangers and Mash or Coddle with a pint of Guinness

Kelly, just thinking about next years basketball team is scary... I feel like they'll be absolutely terrible. One of the worst in the entire country. Am I being a little too pessimistic? Or is dead last in the ACC likely?

Dead last is a possibility, but there are a couple of other terrible teams too this year. Somewhere between 13-15 is most likely, it is going to be a LONG YEAR. Pastner will tell you that.

For the first time in a LONG time I am feeling optimistic and hopeful about our front seven. Can we truly depend on our defense (well except against Clemson and UNC) ???

I mean they have plenty of talent time for CMP and CTR to coach them boys up. I think you should be encouraged by the level of talent and depth. They have five DEs that have significant game reps plus the JUCO kid Branch and then in the middle Pat Gamble and Francis Kallon have played in a lot of games and Kyle got his teeth wet last year and CMP has always been high on Glanton plus you add Martin and Adams that's a lot of bodies. LB have plenty of experience with Brant and PJ Davis plus Vic and Lewis have played some and have plenty of talent.

* It seems like Pastner is getting GT back onto the recruiting radar, but with the program's recent history it will take a special recruit to jump in first. How important is landing that first top recruit towards getting a snowball rolling?

That's going to be the big key, I've talked about it with some hoops recruiting experts and all of them think if he can get one big time kid to jump in then GT should be able to start pulling a few more who want to play with him. That's the key for 2017 since he has so many ships. Then you can add one or two one-year to two-year transfers to round it out and you have some nice pieces. The guys they have now are not bad but none can carry a team.

* DL recruiting seems like an unknown at this point. Do you expect some more offers soon or will the staff wait and target some kids that emerge throughout the high school season?

I think you will start seeing offers over the next few weeks to DTs and maybe more during the next evaluation period in Sept. This is a thin DT year across the country and why you see guys like Jake Lichtenstein getting Bama and USC offers out of the blue. GT nearly had that guy committed two months ago.
