27 commits in this recruiting class... taking the over or the under?
KQ: I think I have to take the under. Only 15 ships as of today, very few R-JRs who will graduate. It will be a struggle to get to 20+ barring some guys getting buried on the roster.
RJ- Under. That would require an insane amount of attrition.
Does anyone know how the ACC actually handles intra-conference transfer waivers now that the NCAA changed rules with the portal? Not looking for the decision making, more so the process.
Example, latest bylaws I can find say a majority of ACC school reps at the meeting with a majority of schools represented have to approve the immediate eligibility waiver. PAC 12 and SEC changed their process. Has the ACC? Is a meeting called by the ACC or is it voted on at the next scheduled meeting?
KQ- I feel like all of those rules have been dumped or don't apply in GT's situation mainly with Marquez Ezzard. Since Mark Richt left that would or should bypass it. Last time I asked about this a year ago no one in the league could really give me a concise answer on it. I can ask again.
With Bryce Gowdy's performance at the 5 star challenge, do you expect his stock/ranking to continue to rise?
RJ- I would expect it to rise given how he performed at the Five-Star Challenge, but I cannot be so sure, because that is the end all, be all event of the summer. It is a piece of the puzzle, yes, but it isn't like he's going to be given a fifth star or anything.
KQ- So here is the rub. There was a kid Nolan Groulx who is a freshman at Wake Forest now and killed it at 5-star. He jumped up to the 150s from like 220 in the rankings off that. Then he went to one of the postseason All-Star games and laid an egg and dropped. There is too much time left for any real certainty on Gowdy. Should he move up in the next rankings? Yes. Will he stay there? Who knows.
Favorite recruit so far in this 2020 class?
RJ- Hmmm probably Jahmyr Gibbs. The way he goes about his business, doesn't worry about the media side of recruiting, and just goes to work on getting better on a daily basis, intrigues the hell out of me to be completely honest.
He is such a dying breed in today's media-driven world. In my weekly feature detailing each commits' performances, I'd look for his to be one of the most impressive stat-lines week in and week out.
KQ- I actually like Wing Green a lot. He is a different type of kid (meaning a GT kid). He has a lot of varied interests outside of football and has an unusual story.
And do you think we get Marvin Scott III or another RB out of this 2020 class? Thanks in advance
RJ- As for another running back, time will tell. Marvin Scott is the name thrown around the most, and as I have said a handful of times in the past, they aren't going to take kids just to take them, especially at that spot.
KQ- Unless an older kid leaves the program they cannot rationalize another RB in this class. You'll have every one on the roster right now back plus Gibbs and you added three more to the roster this summer. That goes against what CGC has been preaching. So unless it is a can't miss type kid, no.
If you could cover any team in any sport what would it be?
KQ- My dream was always to be the Boston Red Sox beat writer. However after spending time talking with other people who've covered baseball and seeing how much time away that would be brutal. If I didn't have to make a living, it would be something like Hawaii football. I wanted to move out there the day I landed there on a vacation and was looking for jobs. LOL
1. Krystal or White Castle?
KQ- I'd just go with Krystal because that is what I know. I've only had White Castle like twice.
2. How many of the above could you eat in 3 minutes?
KQ- Sober, like four. Drunk maybe eight especially in my 20s.
1. Assuming that BOTH Usher and Parham have their Hardship Waivers approved within a reasonable period of time before the season starts, Kelly what do you think our chances are against Kentucky in Lexington on December 14?
KQ- My understanding is they are not getting a waiver for Usher unless there is a miracle. He will be eligible right around that time. I'd have to check with Pastner to see when he would be able to play with the academic calendar change in December. He will be available just not sure when. On Bubba, they don't know yet. If he plays, then they'd have a punchers chance. UK can have some scoring issues especially shooting. This is a game where James Banks has to really watch himself with the fouls as well. I'd say like 4-5% with the best possible circumstances. When was the last time UK lost a non-conference game at home? it was 2016 to #11 at the time UCLA before that is 2012 to #8 Baylor. GT won't be ranked playing there. The last time they lost to an unranked team at home was in 2008 pre-Cal with the shitty Billy Gillespie expert and they lost to VMI. That was only 12 years ago.
2. Is there ANY chance of seeing the MBB Jacket exhibition games in Spain SOMEWHERE on TV or the Internet?
KQ- I'll ask, it would be hard for them to do logistics wise. Also both GT and the teams they are playing are looking at it like a scrimmage basically with no scouting or real game plans. I'm not sure they'd want it out there.
3. I am choosing to ignore the latest AJC/WSB hack job on CJP. Am I being delusional? Should I take it more seriously? Lastly, am I correct or incorrect in believing that finding a competent replacement for CJP would be a lot easier said than done?
KQ- I think if they fired Pastner at the end of the year it would be the hardest search yet. Remember Pastner was like the 15th guy approached about the job last time. They nearly hired a guy who Vandy just ran out of town. It is not the job that Paul Hewitt took or the job that BG took. It is sort of like the Tonight Show. It was a big deal to replace Johnny Carson (aka Cremins in this analogy) and a big deal to replace Leno (Hewitt) now it is not what it used to be. I'm not sure where you'd look to be honest either. As far as the AJC goes, this seems very much like one journalist hell bent on following Mr. Bell down any rabbit hole possible. I guess it gets him clicks, but I think it is shitty.
What is up with the Rivals guy for the Virginia area not having evaluated Behrens in the months he has been committed?
KQ- Where would he evaluate him? He isn't camping anywhere. There are no practices to observe or games to be played. He hasn't gone anywhere to showcase himself nor does he have new video for Friedman to look at. His senior film or a live-game will be his shot. I may have a chance to see him as well depending on some stuff.
With the new that Curry will be back for fall of 2020, does that mean we maybe don't take another LB in this class and wait for 2021?
KQ- That is an interesting question. I think they may wait until after camp when they have a better understanding of the needs going forward.
RJ- I'm not sure on this one, to be completely honest. With all of the position changes, anything is likely in play. I would be very surprised if they chose not to take another linebacker, though. They have some very talented ones still on the board.
