Whatcha think about the two Newton co kids CJP just offered? I know they're 9th graders, but very talented none the less.
Got no clue, @Dan McDonald could chime in.
Do you see a time in the future where the Athletic Association is allowed more flexibility financially for football and basketball? I feel like this is Georgia Tech's #1 problem, and am just wondering if it is even possible that it might not be such an issue as it is now. Thanks!
They need to raise money in unique ways and they have made no effort to do so under the current administration. The school has affluent alumni who would buy in if they are approached in the right way. Servicing the debt from the football stadium is killing a lot of the money as well, that albatross is not going anywhere anytime soon.
How much staff does GT have dedicated to watch recruit film in fball and bball?
Football wise they have three people in the recruiting office plus the GAs who watch film as well as all the assistant coaches, hoops is different because the assistants and Josh actually do a lot of that themselves. Right now he does not have a recruiting office type on staff, that should be the final hire at some point in the future.
Breakout RS freshman this year?
Brentavious Glanton is the guy I'd keep my eye on, he made a lot of plays in the spring and CMP wants to roll four guys pretty regularly at the two DT spots so there should be plenty of reps if he can handle it.
How do you think JJ green will do?
Hard to say, he has good ball skills, but his blocking wasn't great. I think he may be a guy who is more of a gamer type. He has all the tools to be a good A-back though.
Do you think CPJ will re-sign after this contract is up or retire? When CPJ is gone do you think GT will run a deffierent offense or hire from within the staff to keep the TO?
I would be surprised if CPJ coached beyond 2019 but not shocked. He will be 62 going into the 2020 season and he is competitive as hell so I'm just wondering what would satisfy that for him if he isn't coaching. The biggest issue for CPJ is the time and work it takes him to call his own plays. I just can't see him giving that up though. When he leaves it really depends on who the AD is at that point. If it is MBob, then he may blow the whole thing up and start with an unusual hire. I don't see anyone on the staff right now who would be an interesting hire as a HC. Charles Kelly could be in a position to come back and be the HC (really well-liked here and respected in CFB), people will want George Godsey, but I've heard he has no interest in recruiting and likes the NFL even though GT was his dream job at one point.
Is the Berry kid who is a grad student and scoring point guard announced a transfer school yet?
He signed with UF. The scoring point guard Justin Moore is going to OV to GT next week after Memorial Day and he will announce after that visit, I think he is GT's if they want him.
1) Of the prospects on our recruiting board, all positions, which five or six would be the most highly rated by star givers? Our chances with each?
DE- Malik Herring- 5%
CB- Malcolm Askew- 5%
ATH- Bruce Jordan-Swilling 3%
LB- Leonard Warner 85%
CB- Genry Bonds 15%
2) In March you projected that there were six on our recruiting board (Webb, Henderson, Cook, Quinney, both Swillings) that were "priority targets" for GT and on which we had a good chance. Any change to that? Any additions to the "priority targets" circle?
Well I don't think I ever said GT had a good chance at the Swillings, you'd have to show that to me. Webb they are working on, Henderson is getting a lot of "family" pressure to go to the SEC, Quinney is still in a good spot, Cook is GT or Miss State IMO, with GT having an edge. Leonard Warner is a big one, also I think he could commit to GT in the next month or two.
3) Favorite place for a really great steak?
My own grill is almost always the best, I've been to some good places like Smith and Wollensky's in Las Vegas. @whiskeychef turned me on to Hal's here in Atlanta which is an old-school cigars at the bar steakhouse.
Do you see any Dawg intruders in the questions above?
Nah I think it was okay.
Any team possess more talent at runningback (numbers and skill) than Georgia Tech?
Georgia is pretty loaded with Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and Hollyfield's kid. Clemson has Wayne Gallman, Adam Choice, Tyshon Dye and they signed Tavien Feaster who is pretty damn good. GT has the most RBs and plenty of talent, but they don't have a Chubb or even a guy on the level of Synjyn Days or Laskey yet.
Maybe too soon for you to derive impressions, but very interested in the support staff under Pastner. AJC had a good article interviewing Bobinski about the mix of regional ties, national ties and head coaching experience they intentionally hired. Your take? Is the ops staff now full? What became of Huff?
They have not hired an ops guy, not sure what the deal is with that. I think it is funny how hard MBob is working with CJP, he has no relationship with any other coach in the GTAA in any other sport and wasn't like that with BG either. It is fascinating to me. I think the hires are fine, I think they may have overpaid for some of them, but they covered the bases in terms of areas that GT needs to hit, Chicago, West Coast, DC and GA so they all make sense as well as the skill sets, big man and guards.
When is it looking like CDH will retire or move on? He's done a lot of good for the program but it's gotten very stale and is in desperate need of new life. Five straight losing seasons in the ACC, struggling to make the NCAAs, just not good results and doesn't look like it will get better until there's a change.
I think Danny is here for a while longer. His son is on the team now and the youngest one is in the 2017 class and should be coming here so I think he will be here until they are done so 2021ish.
