If BG ends up staying, do you think there's a possibility for other staff changes and who do you think may be on the move? I know Chad Dollar considered a D2 head coaching job last Spring and Coach Herrion has the type of recruiting network that would be attractive to mid majors & low majors in the Northeast.
Generally you see guys try to make a move if they think the coach is done. None of the current assistants can move anywhere with equal pay IMO so it will be a downward move or taking a job like you referred to for Dollar where they have a chance to be the head guy.
Soooooooo what's DRob doing?
Hanging out at UGA with his family.
Has Freeman been able to add any good weight?
I haven't seen KeShun lately so I'm not sure.
Who'll end up being our best pass rusher in the next 2 years?
Anree Saint-Amour
Do you think Griffin will participate in the Spring practice? What back up OL will need a big Spring?
I'm guessing you mean Chris Griffin and yes he is fully cleared for spring ball. Brad Morgan and Jake Whitley need to step up along with Shamire and Griffin. Guard is the most important position this spring probably on the whole team.
Least favorite former GT athlete to cover?
Nesbitt was hard because he never said much of anything while we were interviewing him and he was so important to the team. It made that part of it hard. Tevin got much better but Nesbitt was always tough to get anything decent out of quote wise. There haven't really been any personality turds.
You've seen the GT football program up close and personal for several years now. "If you're staying the same, you're losing ground". From coaching staff to recruiting effectiveness to facilities and support programs to marketing/public relations/fan relations, are we better at some, not as good as we were, or staying the same?
I think staff wise it is not what it was and that is a money thing IMO, the football team does a nice job of stuff PR wise, but the school has major issues in general. I think there are some positive signs with some of the hires CPJ made like Brittany for Joe Ham, Candeto for Hurt and hopefully West for Coach Ray. Facilities are much better than they were in the past.
You've heard the arguments for keeping and for discharging BG time and again from your posters on this site. Some pretty good points made by each side. If you were Mbob, what would you do and what were the main factors which drove your decision?
If I'm MBob I make a change IF I can get a contract in place with the replacement coach and you don't have to do this huge search thing or get in a bidding war. I think that is the issue right now and MBob while he may have shortcomings isn't dumb, so I expect that is what is going on behind the scenes.
If you are the new coach replacing BG, whenever that day comes, of the existing staff of assistant coaches, which do you consider retaining? Why?
I would dump them all, no one on that staff is worth keeping IMO because you want to make a clean break. I'm not a fan of keeping old staff around and it tends to backfire on a lot of coaches in multiple sports. You want the new guy to hire his people whoever they are.
AT PRO DAY:
did Days do enough to get another shot at the NFL?
Yes, I talked to a couple of scouts and he will get some camp invites and should have a few to choose from.
DId Milton perorm his way into beING selected in the draft?
Yes Milton is probably going to be drafted though that always depends on if there is a run at a position and who is on the board with the last two rounds.
DJ looked extremely fluid in the drills, did he make himself some money?
DJ did very well, I think had Demond been able to go that would have helped him and Milton because they both got pretty winded with just the two of them though.
Do they record official times for each person participating or does each scout do his own timing?
They have two guys time and they share the times with the other scouts. Certain scouts also run certain drills as well.
With the speed we had at corner, why didn't we do more pressing man against teams? Playing zone with no pass rush is even worse than playing man. Against a zone, once the qb recognizes the setup, the openings are easy to spot.
I never understood why Roof do so much zone coverage with those two corners. A lot of the time they didn't even mask the zone and would back up off the LOS. That is one of my quibbles with CTR's D, hide that and at least look like you are in press and occasionally play man. Roof is into bend but don't break so you keep everything in front and don't let guys get behind you, but it really didn't make sense last year because GT's offense was so bad there was not much pressure on the offenses and they could take shots easily against the zone along with the lack of pressure up front.
Is there a legitimate time for snoddy in the 40? We're any teams interested?
Snoddy ran a 4.45 according to my guy and not really. He has terrible hands, not much film and he has bulked up so he didn't run well. He is 20 pounds heavier than what he played at
Have you seen kyle Henderson lately? Has he done much body resculpting?
I saw Kyle at Pro Day and he looks much better and has dropped some of his baby fat. He has a nice wide frame and while not tall, he could become a very nice DT, he has good instincts and an ability to track the ball in the scrum which will be helpful.
What are you hearing from early morning workouts?
Most people are looking good, some conditioning issues with the same few people like Shamire Devine, but otherwise the coaches seemed pretty pleased.
With JT banged up has anyone stepped up to do something passing skeleton drills with the wide recievers?
He can throw fine, I'm not sure how much passing they do right now because most of the kids take their tougher course loads in the spring semester.
Is Ricky doing any speed work to get a little more separation on routes?
Honestly I don't know, but I know they are working with him on that in camp when that starts in a week.
So with Campbell officially moving to safety what kind of impact do you think he can have?
He is struggling with things right now. He is constantly late to stuff and the whole team had to run on Friday because of him. He has some major maturity issues to work through so he needs to grow up before they turn him loose on the field. He can play football but between the tardiness and the dumb things he does like breaking his wrist in an off-the-field thing, he needs to get it together.
I know you responded in one of the Mail bags that essentially MBOB in your opinion may not be long at GT. Do you think how he manages the CBG issue could be the final straw?
I think there is a lot riding on how he handles or doesn't handle this situation. I know he is not happy with how the season turned out based on what the expectations were with the players BG had and BG wants an extension if they keep him so this is going to be really fascinating.
You threw out the question about does how far CBG take the team into the NIT matter. How much would this impact recruits opinions?
Recruits don't give a flying #$@^ about the NIT so it would have ZERO impact on them.
QB you're most excited about not #5? I'm worried the timing couldn't be worse breaking in a new QB just as all these skill guys mature in their Junior year ...
Lucas Johnson is really fascinating to me because he has the frame to get bigger and he can throw better than any QB they've had on the team here.
Generally you see guys try to make a move if they think the coach is done. None of the current assistants can move anywhere with equal pay IMO so it will be a downward move or taking a job like you referred to for Dollar where they have a chance to be the head guy.
