So who were the high school coaches that sold us out about the a-back pass play?
No idea, LOL.
If CPJ could have anything he wanted for Christmas (GT football wise) what would it be?
Some easy majors that don't require calculus.
Who would you say was or is the better prospect (Custis or Mills) this may have been asked before.
I think Travis was a better running back than Mills. Mills is a better football player, he could start at B-back or linebacker sort of like Bruce Jordan-Swilling.
With the emergence of the youth on the O line do you think next year could be CPJ's best O line at Tech?
Will all depend on the center play and how Kenny Cooper develops. If he plays well and develops, then yeah it could be his best OL.
Any feedback on how the redshirt guys have been doing in bowl practice actually running our O, specifically Jones and Johnson?
Not really, they are not making any real judgments until the spring. It's not really fair to the kids because they are really uncertain with what they are doing. I know they really like Jay Jones' athletic ability though.
Would GT have been able to pull a coach like Charlie Strong?
Sure, Charlie would've taken a P5 job in the south if he had that option. USF was the best job he could get at the time.
Do you think USF will be a powerhouse in their conference going forward?
They have a lot of potential and were trending that way when all the stuff went down with Jim Leavitt and they hired a bad coach Skip Holtz and now they are trending back up. It is an easy place to win because the school has places to park kids who are not strong academically and there is just tons of talent in the backyard.
Is USF's fanbase bigger than GT's?
Hell no, USF draws about 17-22k per game even with a 10-win team. The school is the biggest in Florida, but they don't have a ton of fans, just fair-weather fans. Like many Florida sports teams.
At one time there were stories of a particular transfer of "a difference maker" coming in as a graduate transfer. Is that still going to happen?
I don't think I ever said there were difference makers. There are no guys out there where I just say he plug that dude in, he will start. Nick Chubb isn't a grad transfer, you know what I mean. There are guys interested in grad transferring to GT, but PJ has said he wants to be very particular with who they take.
Since your staying close to the stadium, are you going to venture over to the rv lot?
Possible, my wife is going to shoot pics so she may want to meet the people that make her husband crazy.
What has Stansbury been up to his first two weeks on the job?
Analyzing various departments and meeting with people. He has talked to PJ quite a bit. He is trying to come up with his to-do list.
1. Please give us your picks on the playoff games. And rationale.
I like Bama because they are Bama and are just better top to bottom than anyone else and I'm not sure how hard the Pac12 was this year. Clemson-OSU is harder for me. Two teams that underachieved in my mind. I do think that Clemson's defense will be the difference there and we will end up with Bama-Clemson and that would be pretty interesting.
2. Sleeper team next year in the ACC ??
I think Syracuse will be a lot better. I like Dino Babers and what he is building up there. I think they may still be stuck as the 4th best team in the division but I could see them getting up to 8 wins next year. They biggest issue they have is a trip to LSU and having Louisville, FSU and Miami on the road.
3. Will it be UA or Nike? (hoping for UA)
I think Stansbury will be smart and take UA since UGA is a Nike school. I'd expect UA to go hard after GT and you will get more out of them going against Nike.
Any 2018 recruits we should start keeping a eye on
Not anyone yet that I think is close to picking GT. I think that will pick up some in mid-Jan.
Is the recruiting budget and staff going to get bigger with the new ad?
I believe so, Stansbury has talked about how important recruiting is and I think he will pony up some money if PJ wants it.
What is the status of players' grades
No information has come out my way yet on them. No news is good news.
How much is CMP in on porchers recruitment? Your percentage he comes to GT?
Pelton is involved, Roof and Owens as well. I have no idea what the percentage is. I want to see him on campus first.
What is your thought on Josh Pastner midway through December? Are you impressed with his coaching? Is the team outperforming so far?
I think his Xs and Os coaching and motivating is much better than I thought. I think he mismanages the bench a little bit, he loves a short bench but he wears guys out playing too many minutes and that may blow up in ACC play. I think they are better than I thought so that is great. Hopefully it continues in ACC play.
Your thoughts on the top D lineman we'll land.. ty
You'll know when I know.
Any baseball news at all?
Tough schedule with 7 NCAAT teams Miami (Fla.), Virginia, Clemson, Wake Forest, Duke, Louisville and Western Michigan, but four of those series will be here. I'm super curious about the game at the new Braves ballpark on May 9th.
Golf news?
I don't like golf. You can follow info here for it
Are there any restrictions on how many times a coach (HC or asst coach) can visit a certain school or go to a players high school game?
The head coach can only do one visit to a SA including home and school, have to be done on the same day. Assistants can pitch a tent in front of a house if they want. I've heard great stories about that in the past. Charles Kelly did it with one GT commit, whose name slips my mind. He sat in his car in the driveway until midnight on the last day of contact to make sure no one went in the home. May have been Jemea Thomas.
Do you share any posts (such as the War Room posts) with the coaching staffs to make sure there is no information in them they don't want out?
Nope, I just use my judgment. If there is something I'm really iffy on, I may call a contact and get some advice on it, but I occasionally piss someone off. I was cursed out by a USF coach this week for example for something I reported that was true.
Any changes coming in 2017? Locker room, stadium updates, other stuff?
They are modifying the lockers so, nothing drastic to the stadium. They can't do much because soccer will be using the stadium anyway.
How many high school seniors are ranked 4* or 5* this year by rivals? If we assume Stansbury can unite the fan base, increase revenue and expand the recruiting dept to say 15 people or more, in your opinion, what percentages of those would qualify for GT and what percentage would we actually have a chance with. How many of those that could qualify would want to go through the academics. Basically trying to figure out our realistic expectations.
I can't answer how that would impact recruiting from a sheer numbers standpoint. Remember only a fraction (maybe 25-30% of the 4-5-star talent is in areas where GT has a pipeline of some type. Right now there are around roughly 300 players four star or better. The least of the four sites that rank recruits by the way.
What's the level of interest from the Lowndes QB Michael Barrett?
I haven't had a chance to check in on him, but I'd be happy to do so soon.
Imagine (maybe some Maker's Mark would help) that CPJ gets six to seven staff adds authorized. As well as OK to introduce new technology. If you are his consultant, how would you advise he shape the new infrastructure? (Would CPJ remain manager of all recruiting?)
If it were up to me, pay attention to that part. I would have PJ just pick the QBs and BBs and have a true recruiting coordinator who sets up the boards and gets to play the bad guy. You have PJ make calls and do his thing, but you make it easier on him and you have the coaches vote on who to offer. I think there is a lot of pissing matches going on with how gets offered and who doesn't. I would add two QAs on O and D and two more recruiting office people.
1. Chances still below 50% that Mills is the starter at B-back for the Tenn game?
I still am concerned, let me put it that way.
2. Post game from I think either vpi or somewhere around there you were pretty sure Brad Stewart was a goner for the season. Was it a case of him toughing it out, wasn't as bad as they thought after swelling went down or a combo?
It wasn't as bad as it looked. It was just really swollen and turned into a bad sprain. He toughed it out and played through it.
3. Austin twins and Searcy...all 3 had monster years. Do you think any of them are captains next year? I think all 3 could be all ACC next year and besides getting a bunch of kids from the 50-54 era of Dodd don't know if we've ever signed a group like that out of HS.
Interesting question. I hadn't thought about captains next year also keep KeShun Freeman in mind. Could see the twins doing that along with Qua or Matt Jordan maybe.
Biggest under the radar commit that could surprise us in this class? Also is Aubrey more interested than Carl Lawson 2 years ago and Trenton Thompson last year? Or is this just more late recruiting buzz that won't pan out our way?
I don't recall Trenton Thompson ever being interested in GT. He was basically unable to read at a high school level so I'm not sure that GT was ever in the mix with him. Lawson was interested, but he would've been the exception of all exceptions and his dad knew better than to subject his kid to that. Aubrey is much more accomplished as a student than either of those two kids.
No idea, LOL.
If CPJ could have anything he wanted for Christmas (GT football wise) what would it be?
Some easy majors that don't require calculus.
Who would you say was or is the better prospect (Custis or Mills) this may have been asked before.
