SAMFORD Player To Watch: Destiney Elliott: The 6-0 sophomore forward has become Samford’s alpha dog. A SoCon All-Freshman last season, Elliott is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder this year and is on a roll. She just missed recording back-to-back double-doubles and her third in four games, going for 20 and 9 Friday night at Indiana after going for 13 and 18 in the loss at UT Martin. Of her 18 rebounds in the game against the Skyhawks 11 came on the defensive end, both tied school records dating back to 1998. Elliott’s led the team in rebounding in seven of the last eight games and in scoring in back-to-back games and three of the last five.

Zaire is getting back into action today. Samford led Indiana by 12, before losing in OT at Bloomington.

A fact stumbled upon in reading the new Media Guide. GTWB has had only 5 head coaches since inception in 1974. The only year Benny Dees coached was 1980-81. He spent time as a Men's Asst. Coach prior to that.

Need to win these next 4 before the brutal ACC schedule begins. Going 8-8 in the ACC would be a major accomplishment if this team could do it. That would put us at 18-11 overall heading into the ACCT and on the bubble for a NCAAT bid if we can get a W or two in Greensboro. Can't afford to lose any of these next 4 OOC games though.

Missed the game due to watching NFL. Looking at the box score from the 11 pt win, a few things stand out...

1. Rogers with only 1 rebound in 23 minutes on the court looks very strange.
2. Fortune (and Howard) get no playing time. Surprising.
3. Great to see Zaire getting her first minutes of the season.
4. 4 players had 30+ minutes...Tilford being one of them.
5. Just over half of Samford's field goal attempts were from outside the arc.

Cryor didn't come in until the second period, gave us a lift. I like seeing her coming in as the first reserve at guard. Zaire with her patented spin move, got us going. Avram didn't play either, so let's hope this is not a trend since we are going to need depth. Fairly soon.

Not sure if the long bus trip from Friday night played heavily in our favor?

I admittedly get a little concerned when I see we had a 21 pt lead in the 3rd quarter and 2 freshmen didn't get in the game coming out of exam week.

I, too, put my NFL interests ahead of Sunday's game. I plan on being at the games tomorrow and Friday. Anyone hearing about the intentions of Kaylan Pugh? She's leaving Ohio State after one semester.. we were among her finalists. Here's the release about her departure from OSU and here's her ESPN high school bio.

Not sure if she knows where to go next?
Ohio St. must have known something, because they took Linnae Harper from Ky. as a transfer earlier today.
