Lady J's try to find the 3rd ACC win at home against the Eagles, who are 13-7 overall and 1-6 in ACC play. BC is 77th in the RPI, while Tech is 96th.

Tech leads the all-time series, 8-5.

Aaliyah Whiteside is 117 points away from topping 1,500 in her career at Tech. She needs another 78 rebounds to get to 700 boards in her career. This will put her in select company. Only 5 Lady J's have accounted for those two in their career so far. They are:

  • Ty Marshall ('11-'14): 2,129 pts + 850 boards
  • Kisha Ford ('94-'97): 1,955 pts + 871 boards
  • Delores Bootz ('85-'88): 1,723 pts + 978 boards
  • Alex Montgomery ('08-'11): 1,565 pts + 837 boards
  • Joyce Pierce ('91-'93): 1,557 pts + 764 boards
Definitely worthy of one day being in consideration for Tech Athletics' Sports Hall of Fame. She is a 1st team All-ACC performer this season. Just a shame the team isn't winning more.

Would love to see Howard get a lot more playing time today. I assume Fortune is just a lost cause at this point and unfortunately, I won't be surprised to see her being yet another transfer out at the end of the season. No knowledge and hoping I'm wrong, but we've seen this many times before. Double-E and Pugh should both be significant pumps of adrenaline for this ailing program next year and both should be starters and significant contributors. I'd love to see someone like Howard (and Fortune, though that may be forgotten at this point) get more and more time down the stretch to see what she can do, build some confidence, etc., for the future.

Cryor getting absolutely no playing time is also interesting, perhaps mysterious, but not sure what the heck is going on with that either. Very odd times these days. Coach Jo's teams have been much better in February historically. Here's hoping we can get the home W today heading into that stretch run. Another WNIT appearance is still achievable possibly. Just can't lose games like today if we have any chance at that whatsoever.

Glad to see the LJ's get the W today. Any W is good at this point. Cryor suspended from the game for violating team rules. Sheesh. Hopefully she gets herself together. Team needs her for stretch run.

Have any Lady J's been back the next season after a suspension?
Not to criticize or to say that a punishment for breaking rules is not necessary....only wondering?

We've had a bunch over the last few years it seems. Nariah Taylor...Brittany Jackson...

We've had a bunch transfer out as well...those 2 above, Donnaizha Fountain, Kaela Davis, Breana McDonald, Gabrielle Holston, De'Ashia Jones (which I thought was a stretch as a signee to start with)...

...now, I am very concerned that 4* recruit Martine Fortune may follow suit with virtually no playing time this season. Who knows what's going on with Cryor? Dejoria Howard gets 1 minute of playing time early yesterday and then gets none the rest of the game. We certainly aren't doing much with recruiting classes coming in.

The revolving door of transfers in and out, with freshmen not getting much of play while grad transfers continue to put up 25% shooting games with 30+ minutes of playing time is mind boggling. Just very strange. Guimaraes has been a nice find to be fair I guess.

Random observations from the box score in no particular odor...

*Aaliyah took 20 of our 57 field goal attempts...she's taking the ones Kaela took last year, except she's more consistent in doing something with them...having said that, BC defended her well IMO and made her life difficult to get the 17 she got

*Great to see Kat playing better and shooting with more confidence from the perimeter...her length and wingspan allows her to easily shoot over practically every defender...hopefully she continues to raise her level of play over the remainder of the season

*Very surprised Peresson only got 8 minutes yesterday...Tilford absolutely must start taking some outside shots to keep defenses honest...even if she misses, it's worth it...she has to show that she will take them (similar to T-Jax on the BasketJackets...but just be smart about when you take them)...at this level, there is no excuse in a player being completely unguarded out on the perimeter and not at least taking a shot in what should be in range

*Tech went 16 of 25 from the FT line while BC went 6 of 8...16 of 25 (64%) is not good and below our norm, but getting there 17 more times was the difference in the game

*I am concerned about O'Neil...will be interesting to see down this stretch run of the season if she looks more like what she did pre-knee-injury her freshman year or if we regret not redshirting her to fully recover this season...I know she is working hard and doing everything she can to get back to her high standards as a player and 100% healthy

When she played Avram, it seemed out of desperation. To her credit she came through. She is a fine example of a Student Athlete.

The Asst. Coaching shuffle over the years, concerns me too. Although, factoring in what JF61 has opined has some merit, although not all encompassing.

I am not as concerned about the assistant coaches. That is, as long as you have assistant coaches that others want. One of my many frustrations with Hewitt is that over the last few years of his time at Tech, he stayed loyal (I guess that's what it was) to a bunch of assistants nobody in a major conference would even think of wanting. In fact, I don't think hardly any mid-majors wanted as assistants either. So, it can go both ways.

I do also fully understand that we are living in a new age where transferring is the "in thing". What I don't understand is a one-year rental who was not even close to being an all-conference player in a lesser league while averaging 5 pts, 3 boards and 1 assist per game now getting 30+ minutes a game in a significantly stronger conference while younger players who can grow are potentially going to be a part of the revolving door called transfers out in the process. I'm not there at practice or with the team so obviously I don't have the inside knowledge of what's going on. But, just watching the games and seeing what I'm seeing, I don't get it. At all.

I follow you on Gari.

My problem with assistants leaving is that we need to get the best out there, not reaches. Especially in the two and three hole. Continuity is important too! Kevin Cantwell was more than a bed checker for Bobby. George Felton like having a brother around when you can't possibly be in two places.

Dr. Carla (Munnion) Eppel named the Lady J's Legend at this year's A.C.C.T.

GEORGIA TECH – Dr. Carla (Munnion) Eppel, Guard, Lebanon, Pa. (1994-98)
Georgia Tech’s Carla Munnion cemented herself in Georgia Tech women’s basketball history during her time on the Flats from 1994-98. Munnion finished her career with 1,671 points which was the fourth highest in Georgia Tech history at the time. Her career scoring efforts currently rank fifth all-time and her career average of 14.9 points per game is sixth in Georgia Tech’s record book. Munnion made 169 3-pointers in her time as a guard for the Yellow Jackets, which is good for fifth all-time at Georgia Tech. She was the 14th player in Georgia Tech school history to score 1,000 points. As a sophomore, Munnion was an honorable mention all-A.C.C. performer after leading the Jackets in scoring with 17.2 points per game average. As a freshman, Munnion was named to the A.C.C. All-Freshman team in 1995 after averaging 15.8 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game in her debut season. She was named the A.C.C. Player of the Week twice during her senior sophomore season. Munnion was the all-time leading scorer (male or female) with 2,256 career points in all of Lebanon County high school history. Her number 24 is retired at Cedar Crest High School and she is from Lebanon, Pa. Munnion currently resides in Pensacola, Fla., with her husband and two sons. Dr. Eppel is a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy as a dentist.
