Some of you will take this the wrong way, and that's fine, BUT...
IF Brian Gregory is let go (and I have no clue if he will or won't be), I'd be shocked if Gregg Marshall or Archie Miller would take the job. Marshall is making more at Wichita State than GT could pay him. I've heard from people that would know that Miller is doing exactly what his brother Sean Miller did and waiting for a top tier job. He's also going to command a lucrative deal.
I'd be very surprised if Will Wade took the job as well. I don't think people realize how good the VCU job is. They have unbelievable support, great tradition, a great area to recruit, and he's very comfortable there and compensated very well. Not saying he would never take the GT job if the money was right, but I doubt he wants to leave there after a year. I know he's very happy to be back there.
Part of the problem GT will face if the job opens up is the fact that the ACC is so strong now. It's going to be an uphill climb, whether Gregory stays or a new coach comes in, especially with all the seniors leaving this year. There is obviously upside to the job with the history from the Cremins days and the pros Hewitt pumped out, but I really don't think GT is viewed as the job it once was. Just being completely honest there. I get the same thing when I tell Georgia fans that are frustrated with Fox that they won't get certain coaches if there is a change there. That doesn't mean GT couldn't get a good coach. There are plenty of them out there (keep in mind, Billy D was at Marshall when he got the Florida job). It just means that they likely won't get a big name, successful coach.
Saw Kelly mention Jeff Capel and Kevin Keatts. Those two would be very good options and very realistic, although I've heard Coach K pushes his guys to take jobs outside of the ACC (notice there aren't any former assistants of his in the league except Mike Brey, and that's because Notre Dame moved in after he took the job). I'd think Bryce Drew (Valpo) would be another good option. Jerod Haase (UAB) would be great as well. Could see Chris Mooney (Richmond) being an option again as well as Dan Hurley (Rhode Island, brother of Bobby). And there is always the possibility of a coach seeking a new job because of problems with his administration like you saw with Frank Martin and Buzz Williams in recent years.
