Fill in the blank: news of Usher and Bubba coming back has a _________ impact on Jose and Moses.

KQ- Very positive

Do you expect Jose to follow Devoe and Moses and put his name in the draft but keep his eligibility? Does Jose not entering the draft yet hint at anything?

KQ- Technically he doesn't have to send his info in. Jose is a real dude, he knows what's up and that his road will be a long one to the NBA via Europe most likely if at all.

Does women's basketball (in general) have the same increase in activity of the transfer portal?
Does our women's team have any portal targets?

RJ- I have seen quite a bit of movement in the transfer portal in regards to women’s basketball, it just does not receive the publicity or “hype” that the football and basketball transfer portals do.

As for targets for Georgia Tech, I have no idea if there are any targets for them in the portal. With the success they had this season, and the returning talent they have already, it would not surprise me if GT was an attractive option for potential transfers.

They already have numerous transfers on the roster, too.

What are the biggest ways college Spring practice has evolved in the past decade? How do you see it evolving going forward? Do you think it ever comes to a point of schools playing a spring game against one another?

KQ- There is a lot of momentum toward an exhibition type game and that would allow teams to renew old rivalries. Mike Gundy was actually stumping for this recently as Oklahoma State and schools like Wake Forest are not having spring games and haven't in many years due to roster numbers and injury concerns in the spring. Gundy's point was why not play Arkansas or some other old rival TAMU or whoever in the spring and you can trade off years home and away. You can set up some parameters like a NFL preseason game where starters get pulled after X-amount of time and maybe the QBs aren't live or whatever. I think teams would enjoy that. I think GT fans would enjoy an exhibition game against Auburn or South Carolina or Florida who aren't likely to show up on the schedule soon.

As far as how spring practice has evolved, it really depends on the program. Spring has always been more teaching oriented, but spring games on the other hand have become more like exhibitions for fan entertainment hence why I suggest fans coming to an open Saturday practice/scrimmage rather than sweating the spring game if they are not season ticket holders and can't swing paying for them or don't want to.

When I covered UGA the spring game was so boring I took vacation and had someone else on the staff cover it in the late 2000s. With TV broadcasting them now and everything getting viewed as a recruiting tool, it is tailored more that way even for a guy like CPJ who used to let the QBs throw it around more and run some trick plays in his spring games. Collins had all sorts of things he did in his first spring game like lining up in the triple to start, they had a trick play for Joe Hamilton to throw a pass, stuff like that.

What is their weirdest or least effective negative recruits pitch on GT that you have heard?

RJ- I’ll leave this one for Kelly, as I am sure there are a ton of different pitches that took place when they were running the triple option.

The strangest one I have heard recently is about a prospect prospectively struggling academically, and that the school they coached at would better fit their academic structure.

KQ- With CPJ the only real weird one would be to DL linemen about their knees getting cut in practices and stuff like that. The weirdest one goes back to Chan Gailey and through CPJ, there was an assistant at either a nearby ACC or SEC school (I can't remember now because it has been a while since this happened) and this dude whenever GT was in a showdown with them would bring a calculus book with him to the recruits house and put it on a coffee table or living room table and say, "take a look at this. If you go to Tech you have to do this, every student has to take it there." It was a scare tactic and was somewhat effect.

Is the AA any closer to expanding the 20% capacity limit for baseball games?

KQ- I have not asked about it, given what they are doing for spring football I would say don't count on it.

who are the most over-rated coaches in college hoops? In other words, who has repeatedly underachieved while having an immense amount of resources?

KQ- Basketball
Tom Crean- UGA
Mick Cronin- UCLA (up until this run he had been in the tournament 12 times and had lost early to a lower seed in either first or second round at UC)
Rick Barnes- Tennessee
Mark Turgeon- Maryland

RJ- Basketball-
Sean Miller - Arizona
Mark Turgeon - Maryland
Rick Barnes - Tennessee
Buzz Williams - Texas A&M

Same question for football.

KQ- Football
Kirby Smart- UGA
Any Texas coach since Mack Brown
Jim Harbaugh- Michigan
Scott Frost- Nebraska
Justin Fuente- VaTech

RJ-Football-
Gus Malzahn - Auburn
Kirby Smart - UGA
Clay Helton - USC
Manny Diaz - Miami
James Franklin (Penn State) and Jimbo Fisher (A&M) are both on the border, imo)

True/False for two statements:
1) weekend of June 11th is most important recruiting effort for CGC's tenure up to this point.
2) looking back, say, a year from now, that same weekend will be seen as a huge success.

RJ-
  1. I think it would be much better to say the entire month of June is the most important recruiting effort for his tenure up to this point. That one weekend is going to be (very) big, but so is the following weekend, with the first five-star official visitor of the Collins era set to trip to Mykel Williams.
  2. True for that specific weekend. There are several members of my projected class that are on that OV list.
