The Charleston Food and Wine Festival just ended. Whiskeychef was there.
He was a finalist in "The Waffle House Smackdown". He won last year and was defending his title against other chefs from far and wide.
The Smackdown puts chefs against the clock to prepare hash browns scattered/smothered/covered, omelettes, wraps, waffles and other core WH menu dishes. Scores included award of high marks for proper placement of the raisin toast with apple butter and satisfying other such critical WH customs but more than anything, satisfying a panel of judges that preparations were yummy and greasy enough.
Whiskey repelled the charge of chef after chef until it was down to him and a lone challenger. After chopping knives and cooking oil went flying one last time in this championship round, one chef alone had a PERFECT score. All hail Whiskeychef!!
One of the prizes is that Chris gets to "own" a Waffle House for 24 hours and donate all proceeds to a charity of his choice.
A big congratulations to him from all fellow JOL members.
On a more somber note, Whiskey was hospitalized upon return to Atlanta for an emergency appendectomy. Surely unrelated to his experiences in Charleston. He's now home, resting well.
