It’s crap or get off the pot time, boys and girls. Hullinger knocks it outta the park. I miss my beloved GT. What happened?…
Dead on…
From Jeff Hullinger
I’m following the Georgia Tech developments this afternoon—- the exodus of football coach Geoff Collins and the Athletics Director Todd Stansbury.
And looking at social media with public reaction.
In my almost 40 years in Atlanta, covering sports and news, there are few local institutions that have evolved more dramatically than GT.
When I arrived, Bobby Dodd wasn’t a statue, he was a real guy in a hat walking around campus with an office.
GT Athletics were run by powerful alums who played for Coach Dodd, men of great Atlanta influence in business and sport.
Harris Tweed jackets and a choice table at the Piedmont Driving Club.
Bill Curry (a former Dodd player) was the head football coach and a rising Atlanta star named Bobby Cremins was leading mens basketball.
Today, I looked at the GT athletics board on line and didn’t know any of the names.
Walk the GT campus today, so different from years ago, physically and with its enrollment.
The student body is international, more Mumbai, Jakarta, and Seoul, than Waycross, Dahlonega, or Hiawassee.
Google GT and look at the SAT/ACT to get in, or it’s place among top universities in the country or world.
The modern culture of GT is not about red plastic cups filled with “Jack & Coke” talking about starting quarterbacks.
GT is unrecognizable in 2022 and the same can be said for its football program.
I do not know where GT football is going, and I’m glad not to be making those decisions beyond todays dismissal.
My son is a sophomore Biomedical Engineering major at GT. As a liberal arts major, GT is hard for me to understand.
I do know this——-Bobby Dodd, Bobby Ross, Bobby Cremins are as ancient as the 🦕 dinosaurs.
Whereto GT athletics?
