I met his mother today in a chance meeting while on business in Atlanta.
I will not mention the name for obvious reasons but the mom was obviously proud of her son and was flabbergasted I knew of her son without her telling me who he was by name. That was funny and sad at the same time....I need to self-examine the information I remember.
We then talked about why he chose Georgia Tech as he had other options that would come to him in the months following his commitment.
Take-away's from what she told me:
1) All players (2-star to 4-star) believe they are going to play in the NFL. Her son has that goal as well and thinks that is what he will do one day....and many on this board would disagree because of "rankings". This is good insight into what the athlete's themselves believe.
2) When he would call her because because of inquiries from other schools that came in, she would remind him that he is called a "student-athlete and there is a reason that student is listed first". She would remind him that he is to see himself as a student first and a football player second.
3) She fell in love at GT because she knew the program and staff would keep her son focused on academics first while also giving him a chance to play football and achieve that dream. She loved the culture at GT.
I will stop there because any other information would tip off the player.
