Yellow Jackets welcome Huskies in home non-conference tilt on Dec. 9, 2021
THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball will play host to Connecticut in a non-conference matchup at McCamish Pavilion on Thursday, Dec. 9, the programs announced Tuesday.
“It’s been over a decade since UConn last visited Atlanta in 2010 and we’re excited to welcome them back to Georgia Tech,” said Georgia Tech women’s basketball head coach Nell Fortner. “UConn is one of the most storied programs in women’s basketball and when I arrived at Georgia Tech, I wanted to bring in programs like UConn so we have the opportunity to compete against top teams. We’re building a program at Georgia Tech that wants to win at the highest level and in order to do that, you have to play the best teams in the country. We’re excited to be able to showcase this game for our fans and the city of Atlanta.”
Georgia Tech and UConn will meet for the third time in program history on Dec. 9, and second in Atlanta. The first meeting between the programs took place in Storrs in 2008. Tech first hosted UConn on November 21, 2010 in Alexander Memorial Coliseum, setting the program’s attendance record with 7,325 fans in attendance.
Tip time and television coverage for the GT-UConn contest on Dec. 9, along with Tech’s full non-conference schedule, will be announced at a later date.
Georgia Tech is coming off a successful 2020-21 season, finishing with a 17-9 overall record and the program’s second-ever NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance. The Yellow Jackets, which finished third in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 12-6 league record, return 11 letterwinners from last season’s squad. Additionally, Tech welcomes three newcomers to the roster for the 2021-22 season.
