More Preseason Recognition for Gotsis
Senior defensive tackle added to Bronko Nagurski, Outland Trophy watch lists
THE FLATS – Georgia Tech senior defensive tackle Adam Gotsis saw his name added to two more award watch lists Friday morning. The Aussie was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Outland Trophy Watch Lists which were released by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).
Gotsis has now been named to three preseason award watch lists. On July 7, he was named to the watch list for the 21st annual Chuck Bednarik Award, which is presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year. The Abbotsford, Australia, native was a 2014 second-team All-ACC selection, starting all 14 games along the defensive line. He finished the season eighth on defense with 36 tackles, while registering 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. He has been a staple on Techs’ defensive line, making 27 consecutive starts at defensive tackle.
He was among 13 ACC players on the 88-player list for the Bronko Nagurski Award, which has been presented to the National Defensive Player of the Year by the FWAA since 1995.
Additionally, Gotsis was one of eight ACC players on the 82-man watch list for the Outland Trophy, which is awarded to the nation’s best interior lineman. The Outland Trophy presentation banquet, sponsored by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee, will be held Jan. 14, 2016, in Omaha, Neb.
Beginning in 2015, The Home Depot College Football Awards will have a new home at the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame and Chick-fil-A Fan Experience in downtown Atlanta. Airing live on ESPN on December 10, 2015, college football’s brightest stars will be honored for their performance on and off the field.
