He is the creator of Soylent. Soylent is designed to be a total food replacement, although of course few people will eat it solely. But the idea is, the guy was an electrical engineer in San Fran and he kept getting annoyed at having to take breaks to eat when he was grooving on his work, or spending a lot of money on food and even then it's hard to eat healthy, yadda, yadda, so he came up with his own food, which is a powder and oil, which you mix and add water to it.

It has 100% or more of all the nutrients we need, according to current knowledge at least. If you say "We already have those drinks, like Ensure" then look at the label because those kinda drinks aren't balanced. Calorie for calorie Ensure has about 25 times as much sugar as Soylent, less than half as much fiber, etc. Some gyms have powders for the muscle heads to use but those are overloaded with protein because the muscle heads want to put on muscle.

Rob Rhinehart made a good point and that is that if you think about food and you want it to be fast, cheap and healthy then you can only have two of the three. His goal was to get all three.

Of course, this isn't the thing to have when you want a nice meal but the idea is that it's for when you want to eat quickly and healthy without wasting money. Considering people have to eat three times a day there might be a market for it. I just wonder why it took an electrical engineer to come up with it. What the hell is our food industry for?

Early last year Rhineart ate nothing but Soylent for 30 days and ever since then 90% of his meals have been Soylent.

Search the Net and you're going to find that this is beginning to take off, so much so that Rhinehart is going to be on Colbert this Thursday. I've read some of what he's written and he's very smart. And non-dogmatic too. His thoughts are, based on current food knowledge this is what we need but if/when the knowledge is updated we'll update the product.

I like food but OTOH there are plenty of times I just want cheap, healthy food quickly in my belly so I don't have to cook or go out. I've ordered some of this and I hope it turns out well.
