G.T. Women at the 'Cuse

The turnovers were ridiculous. Alarmingly bad. The inability to break a press at this level boggles my mind.

Yes, 35 turnovers is staggering. Playing straight up on defense, while getting blown away in the last period. Only 8 players got time and Cryor did not score?

On the plus side, we out rebounded them by 9. But how did the Orange Women get 21 offensive boards? Do we box out, put a tail on somebody's front side? Lean forward and leap when the shot hits the rim? Hustle, dive, press, get low?

35 turnovers is almost 1 per minute. This looked like a 7th grade AAU game where one team has been playing and pressing since they started as 9 year olds against a first year AAU team. Embarrassing.

As a 12 y.o. in a Doraville Rec. League game, I scored all but 3 of our total points(we didn't have 3-pt. FG's in those days, either)for the entire game, one time. In the last 8 minute period they harassed me from the back court end bounds pass until I could put it up on the iron with five guys trying to surround me through our picks and screens. If I passed the ball, my coach yelled at me or called timeout. He put his head between his knees if I had too much blood on my uniform and the refs. told him to get me towards the bathroom for a few minutes. We never turned the ball over, no matter how tired I got or how many trapped me. It wasn't allowed even though we lost more than we won throughout that entire season. Had my hands on my knees before some free-throw trips, but still made them all. I practiced ball handling and free tosses, every day. Even in summer after playing in baseball games or after track practice.

Can't relate to those two things at any level. Was mad at MGH for missing a tough FT today, even though he shoots 83%. Should be at 90% or above. CBG does stress low turnovers, one of his graces to the game. They need to shoot 200 FT's after every practice. Mark did!

Just noticed this... the Hokies defeated the French in Gay Paris yesterday by 20 pts, 66-46. Shocker! Not just the win, but the margin...and the French only scoring 46 pts at home. Whoa!

Lady J's now tied with Wake for the 8th seed at 4-7.
