On how things went in the scrimmage
It looked like a first scrimmage, some good and some bad, we ran 109 plays and everyone played. There was one turnover in 109 plays and the D had some positives, went about like you would think, little disappointed with the veteran OL had 5 penalties in the first series, we've been in pads for 3 days about what I thought.
On injuries
Nathan Cottrell evaluating is on the only one that is serious, the rest are bumps and bruises.
On b-back
Marcus Marshall did some nice things today and caught my eye and we may slide one or two out to A-back, we moved Matthew Jordan to A-back yesterday and we are still looking for guys out there.
On OL protecting Justin last year and pride
You have to give them credit and Justin is hard to hit and he is hard to hem up and you lose your guy and they can't get him. That needs to be a strength of our team, we need to see more leadership out of that group than we are getting.
On Snoddy's return
Last year he was playing the best football of his career and very valuable as a ball carrier and get back to where he was. He has great speed and breaking a lot of tackles and hopefully we can get him back to that point.
On Jordan moving to A-back
He wasn't going to be the starting QB and want to get him on the field and some young guys will play there and he is a tough guy and a tough runner and he can still compete to be the third QB, if you are third team you should get on the field.
On competition between players being high
There idea of competition and mine are not the same right now, but the freshmen class has some good athletes in it and some are lost but the older guys can see the potential and several of those guys
On Brad Stewart
He really adjusts to the ball and he as great feet and he needs to be more physical but he is everything I thought he was, he is a great athlete.
On defensive improvement
There is nothing new, no magic wand, we just have to play better and we have more experience and depth and we have to get off the field on 3rd downs and that will improve it all. That is something we practice all the time, we highlighted it today in the scrimmage, it is not something we pulled out of the air and we will practice this way, guys have to make plays.
On DL
Jabari makes plays but does a few things that would get you killed against better people. Adam is pretty good.
On the defense having more bodies, reason for optimism
We need to be better and we have guys who are returning and more depth. Toward the end of the year we got more aggressive and we got to get better. We gave up an Orange Bowl record for passing yards against and total yards against, you can't win forever.
Kenderius is out today, we might have a freshmen end that can help. Francis Kallon can do something but at times stands straight up and is driven backward, we have to be better. You can talk until you are blue in the face, you have to do it on the field.
On Cottrell
He is hurt and didn't play, I doubt he will play after that, I let the doctors tell me what it is before I tell you. I don't want to tell you he has X, Y and Z, they haven't told me.
On first seeing that Justin is grasping things to be a leader and playmaker
He got better every game, he was okay early in the year and he has always had a good skill set, he is fast, quick and has a quick release and he is competitive and when he got healthy, completely healthy. He had a lot of experience around him, two NFL WRs, good group of A-backs, weren't burners had played a lot and knew assignments and to change things that allowed him to come along. That he did. He didn't play well this morning, his is not well is pretty good, he will be upset with why he threw the ball, he is a good player and is critical of himself. He has to make plays over there.
On Marcus Allen
Today was the first scrimmage, he played 40 live snaps or so, he looked like Marcus, tries to do things the right way and plays hard. He is in a battle there.
On Skov
He looks much better in 11-on-11, some of the freshmen look better in shorts but when you play football he is hard to tackle, physical blocker, he can help us, will he be the starter, I have no idea.
On Qua Searcy
Qua has done some good things and very athletic and good with the ball and a good receiver and he needs to work on other facets, he will play a bunch and be in the rotation
On Right guard
It is a work in progress, that is a kind way to say it.
On Whitehead
He can play both DEs, he has a chance to get in the rotation, KeShun is one end, Rook or Gamble can play the other end, can play both, then some young guys, Antonio Simmons has done some things and Tyler Merriweather, Saint-Amour who is competing, guys who can fill different roles.
On Bohannon at KSU
I talked to him before camp started, he called me the other day, he said it is harder when you make the final decision with discipline stuff. I talk to Monken the other day as well. Sometimes things come up and they ask my opinion and sometimes we just talk.
