Excuse the gifs as a CHS staffer filmed it on their phone
Watched AJ Swann Spring game vs. Campbell and wanted to gauge for myself how is he as a QB. I believe he’s a very good thrower with the arm talent to be a special QB
Let’s take a swan dive in some pros/cons gif of AJ Swann
Pros: Arm strength
This the biggest thing that standout to me when you turn on the tape. The kid has a hose! Unfortunately, his passes were not handled well by his receivers. Here you see the Swann drive the ball down the hash with accuracy on the skinny post
The ability to throw off different platforms is key in today’s era of football with defensive players being bigger, faster, & stronger. I call this the Aaron Rodgers effect. Here we see Swann showing his ability to manipulate the pocket and throw a crossbody dart to his receiver. Wouldn’t advise this throw, but it shows he can make things happen when the picture breaks down.
Probably his best throw of the game. You see the arm strength throwing the ball from the hash to outside the numbers on the opposite side of the field but you also see the accuracy to drop it in the bucket.
CONS:
A lot of baseball fans on here, so you guys will get this. Early in Swann development, my biggest concern with him is he is thrower and not yet a pitcher(quarterback). You see the tools but quite a bit of time, i see him playing with only the top half of his body and not using legs and hips to deliver the ball which leads to inaccuracy and INTs.
Here Swann reads the coverage, but his base on the throw is not good. He throws off his back foot and cannot drive the ball into the hole of the cover 2 defense
In this example, you see the good and the bad in one clip. Here Swann moves up in the pocket in the window, but since his base (hips and legs) not in good position, he shot puts the throw over the receiver head for a pick 6
In conclusion, I would love Swann as a GT QB for this recruiting cycle Bc he possesses traits that cannot be taught, but also for the fact that he’s a guy that needs to sit & learn behind someone and refine his fundamentals as a QB to become elite.
