Good article posted at nfl.com this morning. Check it out. Definitely agree with the last sentence that he deserves a standing O from those in attendance. And, quite a statement that he might be one of the top 2 most beloved Lions players in franchise history.

What he's done for Tech is invaluable. If ever a Tech FB player's number should be retired, he's in consideration.

I live near Detriot and I hope for the sake of his career it is. This franchise has been an absolute joke for decades. It would be a huge blow for the Lions fans but for Calvins sake I hope he goes somewhere that he can win.

FWIW, I'd retire Joe's before Calvin's.

That's specifically why I worded my comment the way I did. That is, "he'd be in consideration" because there are LOTS of other guys, like Big Joe, who would have to be in the same discussion along with Billy Lothridge, Larry Morris, Shawn Jones (my personal favorite of all time), and the like.

I actually like #19 being the only one retired and all other numbers being honored.

Do you not have to be a graduate? Or did he get his degree?

Yes, there are rules which were revised a few years ago. Being a graduate is still a requirement. Previous to that change though, he like many others (Dennis Scott, Nomar Garciaparra, etc.) across multiple sports would've immediately be ineligible because the previous rules required the S-A to complete all years of possible eligibility (read: cannot leave early for professional). Castleberry of course left for more noble reasons and he isn't the only one of course back in the day.
