Being a Tech and Falcon football fan

I live in Michigan. Try watching the Lions! I love the fact that Calvin plays here but I hope for the sake of his career he leaves for a franchise that give a F and gets a QB that's worth a shit....

My pro team is the Dolphins who came into this season with all sorts of hype about challenging the Patriots. What a load of crap that was. What a miserable season of football all around.

I am both a Tech & Falcon fan - been a rough season to say the least. But I feel tech has a lot of promise in the near future. I can't say that about the Falcons. I will keep my Tech season tickets but the Falcons are history. Not only am I not paying for the ridiculous PSL's but may not even get the tickets next year.

Despite losing I enjoy the Tech games a lot more than any Falcon games. Tech caries more about their fans than the Falcons do. But that is just my opinion.

Side note and not meant to rub salt in you Falcons fans' wounds today, but tip of the cap to Ron Rivera and the Panthers. Damn, they are good.

*MY* Redskins have had to play the NFC South and AFC East this season in our schedule rotation. The Panthers are far and away the best team we've faced...and it really wasn't/isn't close.

Will be rooting hard for you water dwellers tomorrow night. Go Fish!

The Dolphins have a knack of winning meaningless games in December to ruin their draft positioning, so the 'skins have that going for them. If the 'phins pull off the victory tonight, that will make them 3-1 against the NFC East with the sole loss coming against the only team in that division I can't stand - the cowpunks. Miserable year of football on all fronts.

I just went into design mode for the Lamar Miller statue to build, but SWMBO told me it's too soon. We'll see.

;)

Can we add the Atlanta Hawks to this thread?
I know it's not football, but they deserve an "illegal procedure" penalty at 14-12-after a real nice start to the regular season.

What is going on locally here?

And, you haven't even mentioned the Braves yet.

Buddy, you and I might be the only ones left? O.K., Walter Banks, he has his suite there next to Freddy G.(you gents are always welcomed in the Owner's Box, they sit upstairs with Terry when at Turner).

The only thing I have liked has centered around the two Shelby Miller deals. The latest haul of three almost ready players, including Jenkins in the first deal that shipped off Jason Heyward(now he has broken the bank).

This last signing with Chacin is decent, since we gave up nothing including no draft picks. Only a million if he makes the roster to rent him as a swing man on the staff. Coppy is trying to make his imprint with saber metrics combined with scouting. Hold on to your seat, because he won't be finished until Stech81 drinks his last beer, and that is infinite.

I gave up on the Braves last season.

I know what you mean. I renewed my mlb.tv PPV package again and enjoyed following it for the most part thru the first 2 months, but by the All Star Break, I was done with them. Didn't watch a complete game from about mid-June on the rest of the way. My son and I follow them and talk about them, but we are both pretty disgusted as I know most all Braves fans are with the state of the team. It started for me actually about 3 years ago. I will have a difficult decision to make come late March as to whether to renew the package for another season.

When the Falcons stopped the Panthers on 4th down in the 2nd qtr but the NFL gave the Panthers the first down. I turned the game off.

If the NFL would rather protect the referees emotions than reward players for a great stop in a difficult situation, I am done with the NFL.

at least for this year...

A little Braves Baseball chatter:
The Braves targeted Dansby Swanson even before they created room at short by dealing Andrelton Simmons, GM John Coppolella tells Fangraphs’ David Laurila. “We’ve been in talks with Arizona since the end of the 2015 season,” Coppolella said. “We hoped to get Swanson, but we didn’t know if, or how, the deal would materialize. We saw him as a fit for us, whether we made the Simmons trade or not. We just want really good players and he’s a really good player.”

My first reaction to his quotes is...and Andrelton Simmons is not a "really good player"? I can't point to a single thing the Braves have been doing that is a positive or makes any sense at all.

I've dealt with this crap since Jack Kent Cooke died and his family lost control of *MY* Redskins to Danny Boy. Now, having to deal with continual incompetence and downright idiocy with the Braves is scary to my professional sports fandom. Ugh.

To support BAJ, and the continual minor-league talent:

Right-hander Brandon Cunniff has been outrighted to Triple-A Gwinnett by the Braves after clearing waivers, according to a tweet from the team. A former 27th-round draft pick by the Marlins, Cunniff spent three seasons in the independent Frontier League following his brief minor league career with the Marlins. The Braves plucked him from the indy circuit in June of 2013, and he rather quickly rose through their ranks over the past two years. Cunniff posted a brilliant 2.02 ERA in Double-A and jumped directly to the Majors, where he posted a 4.63 ERA with a 37-to-22 K/BB ratio in 35 innings.

Hopefully, the Falcons will lose by 8 pts or more this Sunday. See, they can still be very valuable when you need them to be. ;)

The Nats. signed former NY Mets 2B Daniel Murphy. The minor league Braves have the 3rd selection in the First Round of the next draft in June, 2016:
FIRST ROUND

1. Phillies
2. Reds
3. Braves
4. Rockies
5. Brewers
6. Athletics
7. Marlins
8. Padres
9. Tigers
10. White Sox
11. Mariners
12. Red Sox
13. Rays
14. Orioles
15. Indians
16. Twins
17. Angels
18. Astros
19. Yankees
20. Rangers
21. Mets
22. Dodgers
23. Blue Jays
24. Royals
25. Pirates
26. Cardinals

COMPENSATION ROUND (bonus picks given to teams who issued qualifying offers to players who signed elsewhere; picks are allotted in inverse order of 2015 record)

27. White Sox (for Jeff Samardzija signing with the Giants)
28. Nationals (for Jordan Zimmermann signing with the Tigers)
29. Mets (for Daniel Murphy signing with the Nationals)
30. Dodgers (for Zack Greinke signing with the Diamondbacks)
31. Cardinals (for John Lackey signing with the Cubs)
32. Cardinals (for Jason Heyward signing with the Cubs)

Really happy for Chan Gailey right now. Will be rooting hard for the Jets at Buffalo next Sunday as they just need a win and they are in as they now control their own destiny for postseason.

I'm happy for Chan too. He has always proven himself a top tier NFL OC. I'm also happy for Todd Bowles who served so effectively as the interim head coach of "MY" Miami Dolphins that many of us were infuriated that he wasn't given the shot he deserved. The hiring of Philbin over Bowles is yet another link in a long chain of kicks to the groin that Dolphin die-hards have endured.

So basically it is business as usual? Tech has 1 good season out of 10 like Falcons do. That has been a fact for the last 30 years.

My memories of Bowles is as a player with *MY* Redskins. He helped get us a ring back in our much better days. His demeanor on the sidelines during games is pretty amazing. I don't think I've ever seen a more calm head coach. He makes Lovie Smith look like a crazed lunatic on the sidelines. ;)

Disappointed for Chan and the Jets, but happy Bill O'Brien and George Gutsy's Texans won their division and made the playoffs. Once the coaching carousel heats up starting tomorrow, it will be interesting to see if George's name pops up anywhere. I don't think he's a candidate for a HC position in the NFL...yet. I would think some college program would take a good strong look at him in the near future...if not this year, then maybe next.

We shall see...

Falcon's owner Blank announces today that he's sticking with Dimitrof and likes the relationship between Quinn and him.

I think that is a good move as a non-Falcons fan from the outside looking in. The Falcons need to continue to invest in their defense via the draft and perhaps a couple of FA signings that can immediately help. Same for the O-Line and they need a complimentary 2nd WR to Jones. Preferably a speed demon in the slot. Nobody fears Roddy White anymore. And, Hankerson can't stay healthy. I get the connection to him by former Skins OC Shanatan Jr. from their days up here, but nobody fears his route running nor physical attributes.

If Megatron is cut, the Falcons at minimum should talk to him about working a deal to finish his career in Atlanta. Imagine a Jones + Calvin WR tandem. Wow! The Falcons really aren't that far from being a SB contender. And, that may entice Calvin's interest. At this point in his career, I imagine Calvin would just like to taste the postseason and having a legit SB chance as much as anything. If he joined the Falcons, that may actually entice some others to Atlanta at other positions for the same reasons too.

Bad move to keep Dimitrof he can't draft the right players , and I'm starting to think Blank is not a good owner for the Falcons he has very bad judgement of people he hires .

Other than Julio Jones, which was a can't miss pick, the Falcons drafts have been very bad for the most part. The last class was better, but of all the LBs picked since 2010 only one played any time this past season, Weatherspoon and he's hurt again. Then there is Tyler Starr a practice player activated for the last game.

2010 Sean Weatherspoon - 9 tackles in the last 2 years
2011 Akeem Dent - played for Houston last 2 years
2012 none
2013 none
2014 Prince Shembo - 16 games in 2014, no team in 2015
2014 Marquis Spruill - no games
2014 Yawin Smallwood - no games
2014 Tyler Starr - played in one game
2015 none

This is Dimitrof's draft record for LBs during the past 6 years...
