Looking forward to seeing who Danny starts this weekend. Hopefully, the JJ's can get off to a great start to the season. All 3 games will be streamed via PPV All-Access. Looks like the weather is going to be marvelous for mid-February. Fri & Sat clear with temps in the 60's. Slight chance of rain Sunday with temps also in the upper 60's. Can't ask for much better than that this time of year.

A couple of websites to save in your Favorites list if you haven't already...

1. Beesball.com: http://beesball.com/
The best reference point for the JJ's at all times. Thanks to Beesball Richard for continuing to maintain the site over the many years.

2. D1Baseball.com: http://www.d1baseball.com/
A great place to check schedules, game results, standings, etc., from across all of D1 college beesball.

Speaking of, D1Baseball.com has the JJ's as a 3rd seed in the Starkville, Mississippi, Regional in its way-too-early preseason Road to Omaha projections... http://www.d1baseball.com/analysis/road-omaha-preseason-field-64/

Weekend rotation per reading through the article...

Fri vs Purdue: RHP Junior Brandon Gold (along with Jamal Golden, the perfect name for a Yellow Jacket S-A)

Sat vs Western Michigan: LHP R-Jr. Jonathan King ("the King of the Hill")

Sun vs VCU: RHP Freshman Jonathan Hughes (his movies back in the 80's were classics)

Things you learn...

  • Purdue assistant coach Wally Crancer was a member of the Yellow Jackets baseball team and was later a volunteer assistant on The Flats from 2012-13 before taking the full-time assistant job at Purdue. Crancer played on Georgia Tech’s 2006 College World Series team.
  • Junior catcher Arden Pabst threw out 24 would-be base stealers and recorded a caught-stealing percentage of .436 – both figures led the A.C.C. in 2015 and ranked among the NCAA’s best.
Things you already knew, but always worth bringing up again whenever the chance arises...

  • Tech has won the regular-season series from rival Georgia in four of the past five seasons and is 12-6 over the last 18 games versus the Bulldogs. Under Hall, Tech is 43-33 versus UGA.

Here's Tech's starting lineup:

Bailey 2b
Peurifoy cf
Gonzalez 3b
Johnson rf
English 1b
Pabst c
Craport dh
Justus ss
Innis lf

Thanks, mate. That's a strong bottom of the order. Justus and Innis can set the table for the top quite often.

Strong.

The field looks incredible as usual. Good breeze blowing out to left today. Gorgeous day for mid-February at the Greatest Place on Earth. Go JJ's!!

Trevor Craport with a solo blast, 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 7th.

Nice opening day win, 5-2.

The JJ's host Western Michigan Saturday. Georgia State defeated the Broncs, 3-2, in 12 innings today.

Our Sunday opponent, VCU, defeated Kennesaw State in a high-scoring affair, 15-11.

Another observation from today - and I think this is an important one - Tech DH Trevor Craport is on pace for the following totals this season...

*180 for 180 at the plate (1.000 batting percentage...it's a percentage, not an average)

*he will hit 60 home runs, drive in 60 runs, and score 120 runs

Looks like he may rewrite the record books at Tech. Just sayin'.

:D

Waddell has two more H.S. Years. At least he values an education.

Thanks for bringing him to us, and all of that heavy math done on Craport's numbers.

Does 13-0 not constitute a skunk? Realizing most of the pile on came late, good to bee undefeated. Let's wrap up The Commonwealth tomorrow!

I was proud of the defense today. Coach Roof and his troops have looked good so far. The offense? 2 drives die inside the red zone and we have to settle for field goals.

After the game, CPJ was smiling about the defense (aka "them", "they", "those guys")...

We can save money by letting him have baseball too. Might as well let him bee the A.D.?
Seriously, basketball is his love-he told me that at a volleyball match a few years ago. Why pay a third coach for that sport?

I look forward to seeing the collegiate debut of Jonathan Hughes on the hill for the Joltin Jackets Sunday in the weekend finale.

I had forgotten VCU was one of the "feel good" stories of the NCAAT last year having won the Dallas Regional as a bottom/#4 seed. They lost to Miami in the Super Regional, but that's good stuff going into a regional as the bottom team and walking away with a regional on the road that included Dallas Baptist, Oregon State, and Tejas.

Thanks to the WREK guys for bringing that fact up. Go Jackets!!

Jonathan Hughes in his first collegiate start registers a quality start...

...thru 6 innings... 1 run allowed (unearned), 3 hits allowed, 1 walk, 1 strike out, 2 batter hit by pitch, 84 pitches thrown and 56 strikes...

...will be interesting to see if Danny runs him back out in the top of the 7th or if we see Ryan soon. Some insurance runs here in the bottom of the 6th would be nice, JJ's!!!

Ben Parr comes in to start the 7th. Nice job by Hughes in his first start.

The Tech starters this weekend provided the following line combined...

16 innings, 0 earned runs allowed!!!, 2 unearned runs allowed, 9 hits allowed, 11 K's, 7 BB's, 0 HR's allowed, 0 triples allowed, and only 1 double allowed.

Nice!

JJ's with 17 hits and still batting in the btm of the 8th so far today. Keep the bats ringing, Jackets!

7 JJ's with multi-hit games today so far. Jackets busting it open now.

Tech wins. We are well on the way to...

SIXTY NINE AND OH, BABYYYYY!

Rock HornsRock HornsRock HornsRock HornsRock HornsRock HornsRock Horns

(well done, JJ's!)

Tech travels to Statesboro for a Wednesday night first pitch at 6pm with game streamed live via ESPN-3.

The Cesspool defeated the Eagles today to take their series 2-1 over in Hell.

Chance of t'storms in Statesboro Wednesday.
