This says Beesball Richard and Jon Babul will have the call via ESPN-3 tomorrow night for those of us following along from home.

The last time we faced an Ivy League team was against this same Cornell Big Red bunch back during our national championship runner-up season of '03-'04. Our guys traveled to Cornell in Game 3 of that season and won, 90-69, on a Sunday afternoon, Nov. 20, 2003.

In particular, I am looking for:

1. Improvement in Jorgenson's shot (technique for now...not so concerned about whether he makes at the moment).
2. Jackson's shot selection and IQ offensively.
3. Will we run off defensive boards as has been hyped in preseason?
4. How the halfcourt offense looks with Smith in the rotation - this is the biggest of them all to me...if we see the SOS of passing around the perimeter until the new 30-second clock gets down to about 5 seconds and force a shot, then this is a bad sign early on.
5. Has Lammers bulked up and can he use his body effectively? He and Ogbonda should get some PT if we can get a nice lead.
6. Will White be an immediate pump of adrenaline off the bench? He should be.
7. Will the student body show (hopefully giddy off a FB win tonight) and provide some needed support for these guys? I hope so.

Regarding #3 and #4 above, I really hope we see some more open offense and running the floor as has been hyped. Then again, I stand by #4 being most important because once you get into the ACC battles and certainly any tournament time, it normally boils down to how effective you are in halfcourt sets most of the time. Certainly, doing well at #3 can and should help recruiting, bring more fannies into seats with a more up-tempo style of play, etc. Plus, for what has been a clogged toilet for much of the past decade, getting some easy points running breaks effectively will be welcomed.

The Vols host UNC-Asheville tomorrow night. I'll be keeping an eye on that game to see what they do (with lots of new faces, including new coaching staff...yet again!). That is, for the upcoming game Monday night at the Gigantic Boob.

Is the Tennessee game televised?

Yes. ESPN-U. 7pmET tip. I believe it is at the beginning part of ESPN's round-the-clock 24 hour marathon of college hoops TV games coverage thing they do each year.

edit note: woops. Just realized, you may have been asking about UT's game tomorrow night against UNC-A. That game is being streamed live via SEC Network Plus (same thing as ESPN-3, just with a different name to it to make it sound more SEC Network"ish").

Tip in K Town is 7pm Friday night... http://espn.go.com/watchespn/#type/upcoming/startDate/20151113/

Welcome Hoops season. Thank Buddha it is finally here. Game Day!

After our 3rd fumble-giveaway last night SWMBO looked over at me and said... "Tech Basketball starts tomorrow night, right?" I replied "yes". She just said two words... "thank God".

Now, let's hope the BasketJackets come out tonight and play a more exciting brand of offensive (npi) basketball, get the students into the game, rip Cornell, and set the stage for an enticing early season game 2 coming up Monday night against the Vols.

GO JACKETS (and Lady J's)!!!

Jackets open as 18-pt favorites at home tonight vs the Big Red.

Regarding the 18-pt spread...

1. Tech won 2 games last year by more than 18 pts: both by 20 pt margins...over Alabama A&M at home and the bizarre upset at Miami.

2. Tech won 2 games in '13-'14 season by more than 18 as well.

Tech in a battle now. Looked early like Tech would run away, but Cornell has been very hot outside the arc. Nervous.

Chattanooga defeats the Cesspool at the Stegasaurus in OT.

Jackets pulling away and looking good. Will go way into triple digits scoring tonight. First time ever under CBG and first time seeing triple digits since the season opener in '09-'10 with a 100-59 win over Florida A&M.

Tech had 57 points at the half. That's more than we scored for entire games 8 times last season.

Fun stuff. Looking good. Lots of different guys capable of scoring. Good depth.

This is a radical departure from the brand of basketball we have grown accustomed to under CBG. If we are going to play this fast, we better learn how to play transition defense a hell of a lot better than what we saw tonight.

Yellow Jackets win 116-81. We'll find out a lot more Monday night against the Vols. Good start and team looked great tonight.

If CBG has indeed decided to change course and run like thoroughbreds instead of plodding like mules, do we have the horses to run with the established stables in the ACC?

After watching tonight's game, I'm thinking maybe we do. Our roster has collectively shed a ton of weight and we are deep enough to keep fresh legs on the court. It will be interesting to see how this story unfolds.

Great first game. The offense was steady all game, with few real big swings in production either huge spurts or long droughts.

The defense was different. Cornell had a few times when they picked it up and scored in bunches to keep pace and then in the 2nd half to get back close. But then GT's defense really picked it up and Cornell had that long scoring drought that let GT extend the lead.

I was please to see the quicker scoring pace and the lack of scoring droughts.

Let's see if this happens again against Tennessee.

Expecting the final score to be a little closer, however wouldn't mind seeing us go on some runs in this early season game to keep enough of a lead for the home crowd advantage.

Hopefully, it will be more than half-full since Barnes is coaching a $EC team that is a bigger draw locally than the Ivy League. No disrespect to Cornell, I have relatives in Ithaca, NY.

We still have to prove ourselves to the fans locally who are not "hoops junkies" or diehard GT fanatics like us six.
