This week, the tour heads to Greensboro for the Wyndham Championship.

Nick Thompson is barely hanging in at #123 in the FedEx points standings to finish in the top 125. Chesson Hadley is currently #76 in the FedEx standings and in comfortable position to keep playing thru September in the playoffs and retain his card for 2016. Chesson will be the first Jacket off Thursday morning at 7:50am with Nick going off 2 groups later at 8:10am.

Roberto Castro and Ollie each need a win. Castro goes off the back nine Thursday at 8:40am while Ollie goes off #1 at 8:50am.

Bryce Molder is #86 in the FedEx standings and in comfortable position. He heads off #1 Thursday at noon. Finally, Stewart Cink, who has played some inspired golf this summer, is currently #112 in the FedEx standings and in pretty good position to finish off a nice 2015 season and continue into the playoffs and into 2016. He heads out at #10 at 12:30pm on Thursday.

Matt Kuchar will not play at Greensboro. With his top 10 finish at the PGA Championship last weekend, Kooch moved up one spot to the #9 position in the Presidents Cup top 10 auto qualifying standings. There are only 3 events left to determine the top 10 - this week at Greensboro, and then the first two FedEx events (The Barclays at Edison NJ and the Deutch Bank at Norton MA).

Good luck to the Golfing J's this week. Really rooting hard for Nick and Stewart in particular.

Mid-afternoon update for Round 1...

Roberto Castro turned in a solid -3 (67). He started out bogey-par-bogey in his first 3 holes teeing off the back side this morning before finishing the final 15 holes bogey-free and including 3 birdies and an eagle.

Chesson Hadley is the other Jacket so far to turn in an under-par round finishing at -1. Ollie and Nick Thompson both finished at +1. Nick absolutely must make the cut to finish in the top 125. He is projected now at #127. Yikes!

Bryce Molder is -2 thru his front 9 so far and Stewart Cink is also -2 but thru only 6 holes so far (going off the back nine). Cink's strong play of late hopefully continues and slam dunks his top 125 finish.

I thought Ollie was in a better position than needing a win?

I was thinking trying to avoid having to qualify via the Web.com tour. Here is a summary from Ken S at the AJC in his weekly Tuesday blog that outlines Ollie's task... http://georgiatech.blog.ajc.com/201...jamal-golden-seeing-improvement-from-defense/

Critical event for Schniederjans

After missing the cut in his last PGA Tour event, Ollie Schniederjans has a big week upcoming. Schniederjans needs to at least make the cut at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C., in order to have a chance to play in the Web.com Tour finals, a four-tournament series in which players can earn a PGA Tour card for the upcoming season. The Wyndham is the final event that he is eligible for this season.

To make the Web.com Tour finals field as a non-member, Schniederjans needs to finish ahead of the No. 200 player on the FedEx Cup points list. Schniederjans has 99 points, all of which he accumulated in his first two events, the Canadian Open and the Quicken Loans National. He missed the cut at the Barracuda Championship two weekends ago. The No. 200 player has 103 points.

The top 25 money winners in the finals (a field of roughly 170) will receive tour cards, not counting the top 25 money winners from the Web.com tour regular season (who are guaranteed PGA Tour cards). If Schniederjans doesn’t finish ahead of the No. 200 point total, his options would include going through a qualifying tournament to earn his Web.com Tour card.

As of 11am, the projected cut is hovering around the -3 mark which means Nick Thompson needs to deliver a -4 or better round today. Molder having another solid round so far this morning as he is -3 for the day (-7 overall and tied for 5th at the moment) thru 15 holes. Going off the back nine early this morning, he birdied 4 of the first 7 holes with a bogey thrown in and then has parred 8 straight since. He has a chance to be in one of the last groups Saturday if he can finish strong.

Cink is -1 for the day thru 13 holes and -2 for the tourney so far. He needs to finish off strong to make the cut. The other 4 Jackets tee off in the afternoon rotation today.

Cink finishes at -1...likely misses the cut...but, likely finishes in the top 125.

that's a good summary for Ollie. I thought your comment was about the tour finals, not getting his card straight up. I hope he does well. I was disappointed he missed that last one. I thought he'd get at least 5 points from that weekend,

Molder (-7) and Castro (-3) are the only two who make the cut. Molder is tied for 16th but only 4 strokes back heading into Saturday. Castro tees off in the first pairing Saturday at 8:40am. Molder heads out at 12:50pm.

Thompson has dug himself a hole.

Ollie (-2) finishes 1 stroke outside the cut. He bogeyed the final hole of his round today. Ouch!

Looks like Kuchar, Tringale, Molder, Hadley and Cink will continue forward into the FedEx playoffs starting next week at The Barclays in New Jersey.
