Jay Harris is an all-state RB from Lovett. Confirmation is in that he will accept a PWO at GT(although we know without a letter-of-intent signed and accepted by the school/conference, nothing is official until enrollment):

One of the biggest classes of PWO's we have seen in a while. Plus they are committing before the smaller schools have a chance to really focus their recruiting on them.

These are some talented players who could all earn scholarships somewhere.

Question , does a PWO have to sign anything, or if they get an offer of a scholarship from another school in a month can they go or still have to sit out for a year?

Not BAJ responding, however I will take a shot at the question. Any type of walk-on can select another school before they enroll. Normal academic transfer procedures occur if they decide to leave. Most are on the Zell Miller or Hope if in-state to cover tuition costs. Here, Tech covers the R&B, meals, equipment.
 
Georgia Tech picked up another commitment yesterday, this most recent one from Walton defensive end Josh White. White, who is rated as a three-star prospect, elected to commit to Tech over reported offers from Syracuse and others. Interestingly enough, he will begin his Tech career as a preferred walk on, or a player without a scholarship but high up on the list to receive one. He is presumably eligible for the HOPE Scholarship, which should bridge the gap between his walk on status and scholarship. Congratulations to Josh!

Edited to note, Syracuse did not offer on his visit.

Shea has been offered. He is a K/P for college. The Free a Safety duty was for HS. Note to self, when Butker lined up at WR during a Westminister game you were not out there to watch him for that ability.

Glad to see a kicker. He also looks like a good athlete. Hope he never needs to make a tackle on a blocked kick. Thanks to FSU, we all know how difficult that can be.
 
Harrison Butker played WR in H.S. Not a bad athlete. Davis is going to be tremendous for us, should be on 'ship before 2017. He and Underwood will be our future after next season.

FSU took a fantastic one yesterday, over Aguillo's(sp.?)little brother.

Great group of young men. Congrats to them and their family. The Hope scholarship does not come close to paying for cost. It's worth between 5 and 7 thousand a year. The cost of attendance is closer to 22k a year. It shows that these young men are serious about the academic advantages GT offers and have the support of their family. Look forward to watching them compete.

Work hard and it will pay off , I think this was a good class of PWO this year.
 
Just curious, do Preferred Walkons get to board the plane earlier than Regular Walkons? Do they get double mileage to their Frequent Flyer accounts and bumped to First Class while Regular Walkons have to beg for a Coke and some pretzels back in Coach?

They don't get any assistance They pay for everything except they will get feed during the fall practice before school starts. Walk-on's pay. I walked on at UGA and earned a scholarship. They pay the same as any regular non scholarship student. Except they have a much longer day than a regular student does. The scholarship player has to lose his position, the walk-on gets zero extra chances. They have to be ready on day one. Not take any crap from anyone. I think thats why Will is like he is , because I have always taught him you have no friends on a football field. Coming from a " walk-on" background, who lettered I know the attitude you have to show up with everyday. Your not there to make friends, your there to take someones spot. I can relate to those guys. If they show up pissed off at the world, they have a chance.
 
Former walk-on two years ago, got a housing allowance, lived off 10 th St. with a friend of mine who went to Ga. St.

Unless it has changed, better stipend than Section 8, I have been told.

If you get a allowance its not from the Athletic dept. Unless they have some " deal" worked out. But as far as the NCAA goes, Walk-on"s do not get assistance from the Athletic Dept. You can qualify for assistance like any other student does.

Just glad you let Will come to Tech. How are the twins from Etowah doing ? ( The Morgans ) I know Brad was playing OL and Scott was on the DL.
 
The Morgan's are Beast. Great guys. Grear family. Their younger brother is bigger than they are. They come over after games. Good guys to have as your friends!

Ben Jean turned down a few football scholarship opportunities from smaller schools, choosing another route instead.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Grovetown standout signed a preferred walk-on offer with Georgia Tech.

“Georgia Tech is just where my heart was,” Jean said. “I want to go into the science field. I want to go into the medical field.”

Recently, a conversation with a person who is being paid in his job to know what is permissible in Divison 1, FBS/BCS matters....a PWO has a spot on the team, not trying out for the 105(a walk-on does not have a guaranteed spot).....cannot get scholarship money from A.T. or any endowed fund.....can get Hope/Zell....everything else, treated like any other member of the team. May that clear up any confusion on what has been discussed above this post.
