Thursday, 7:30 ESPN: Miami (3-0) at Cincinnati (2-2/0-2)
*The Canes must avoid overlooking the Bearcats on the road in a midweek game. There is no short week for The U because they had last weekend off. Cincy is coming off a Thursday night road loss at Memphis where they gave up 53 pts in a loss. Miami should have no problems scoring here. Cincy lost their starting QB, Gunner Kiel, but their backup QB, Hayden Moore, played admirably when inserted against the Tigers of Memphis. Memphis plays zero defense and is a scoring machine…they’d fit perfectly in the Big 12. The Canes are a relatively small price of 6 pts to cover here. I like The U to get to 4-0 and finish off a nice September before they kick off ACC play in Week 6 at Florida State (with extra rest).

12:00 RSN: Pittsburgh (2-1) at Virginia Tech (2-2)
*This is the ACC opener for each team. Pitt comes off an extra week to rest and prep. The Hokies were upset once again by the ECU Pirates. The Turkey Buzzards are a 4.5 pt home favorite. Bud Foster was supposed to have one of the best defenses in the ACC this year. So far, they’ve given up an average of 33.7 pts per game against D1A foes. Pitt HC Pat Narduzzi is sticking with Nate Peterman at QB. This is a critical division game. Once again, the Coastal appears wide open. Division favorite, Ga Tech, looks like crap and could quickly fade to black with a difficult schedule. It will be a theme every week in the Coastal, but you never know which winner of which game might be the difference in getting to Charlotte for the ACCCG – this one very well could be one of those.

12:30 ACC Network: Louisville (1-3/0-1) at NC State (4-0)
*The Pack has beaten up on the Sisters of the Poor, the Blind, Women’s College for the Totally F’d, and an elementary school all-star team so far I believe. Now, they finally get a legit opponent. Well, I think UofL is at least. In truth, NC State is playing really well and may have the best QB in the ACC. That’s right. I said it. Jacoby Brissett is terrific and he has a stable of running backs who are very fast and dangerous. The Pack are 4.5 pt favorites. This should be a fun game to watch. NC State finally gets a test. I expect the Cards to punch them in the mouth early, but the Pack to eventually take control and win by 7-10 pts.

3:30 ESPN-U: North Carolina (3-1) at Georgia Tech (2-2/0-1)
*The Tar Holes have beaten up on 2 D1AA teams and 1 pathetic D1A team in Illinois in the last 3 weeks after blowing what should have been a W in their opener against a weak South Carolina bunch. Ga Tech has looked awful against decent-to-good competition (I still don’t think Duke is all that good, by the way…which says a lot about GT). The Tar Holes haven’t won on Grant Field since 1997. They likely have their best shot this year to get over that hump. Then again, GT’s pride is on the line. Sometimes when you’ve been backed into a corner, you come out fighting. Well, if you have that pride and want to show it that is. Tech is a 7 pt favorite. Tech could bounce back here and cover that spread. I won’t touch it with a 622 foot pole because nobody knows what we’ll get.

3:30 RSN: Boston College (3-1/0-1) at Duke (3-1/1-0)
*The Eagles field one of the best defenses in the nation and certainly in the ACC. They’ve given up a total of 31 pts over 4 games on the season. Of course, 2 of those 4 games were against D1AA opponents and all 4 of their games have been played at home. As they venture to the road for the first time, they find a Blue Devils bunch who are giddy at their big win over division rival, Ga Tech. I wouldn’t get too giddy, Duke. Ga Tech simply isn’t all that good. Duke is a 6 pt favorite. Neither of these teams are all that great offensively, but each can play defense. Duke obviously can and does put points on the board via special teams and that ultimately may be the difference in this game. If the Over/Under is 40 pts or more, the under looks like a solid wager this week. (note, it opened at 39 pts)

3:30 ESPN: #11 Florida State (3-0/1-0) at Wake Forest (2-2/0-1)
*The Deacs probably lost their last shot at a win on the season at home this past weekend against Indiana. For some reason nobody can figure out, ESPN has chosen to broadcast this game. The Noles are a 19 pt favorite and I expect more money to come in on them and that spread to rise. FSU had this past week off. They must avoid looking ahead to Week 6 when they host the Canes. Wake may hang with them for the first half – then again, maybe they won’t – but I expect the Noles to take over and rip the Deacs by at least 4 TD’s.

8:00 ABC: #6 Notre Dame (4-0) at #12 Clemson (3-0/1-0)
*Ahhhh yes. Definitely a game many fans have been waiting on. ESPN Game Day in town. The Kitty Cats opened as a 2.5 pt favorite, but that line has moved quickly to ND being a 1 pt favorite. ND is a public team so they often get a lot of money riding on their side every week so no surprise. Clemson has had an off-week to prep and get their legs rested. Should be a great atmosphere and super game to watch that likely goes down to the wire. I’m rooting for the Orangenecks, though QB Watson has yet to show me he is super special like everyone hypes him to be against a legit defense. If the Irish though can pass this test, their chances of making the playoffs go up significantly.

ACC teams off this week: Syracuse and Virginia

and some other games…

3:30 CBS: #13 Alabama (3-1/0-1) at #8 Cesspool (4-0/2-0)
*Well, let’s just go ahead and get this out of the way…GO METEOR! I can’t think of two more pathetic crap stains on the complexion of collegiate athletics in America than these two scumbag cheating programs. Well, Auburn must be mentioned as well I guess. The Cesspool has played absolutely nobody so far. Even NC State is saying their schedule is wimpy. So much for all these so-called regular season games being so important and all that baloney. Bama at least has played Wisconsin and Ole Miss. I think the Cesspool gets exposed this week for their weak schedule. Cesspoolians open as 2.5 pt favorites at home. Bama can’t afford another loss to get to Atlanta most likely with tough games like LSU, Tennessee, @ A&M and @ Miss State left. The Cesspool hasn’t faced much adversity this season. We’ll see how they do when they are punched in the face by a bunch of 5-star guys who rarely, if ever, are established as underdogs. The second to worst element about this game to the two crap stains facing off in it is Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson are still announcing the CBS SEC game of the week. These 2 bumbling morons are the second most annoying crew on Saturdays. Only outdone in awful”ness” by the combo of Mike Patrick and Ed Cunningham. A drinking game that will have you wasted by midway 1st quarter is to take a shot every time either Lundquist or Danielson say something inaccurate. But, I digress. A meteor could be very productive this week.

3:30 CBS Sports Net: Air Force (2-1/1-0) at Navy (3-0/2-0)
*We go from a couple of scumbag factories with no integrity whatsoever to 2 programs who unfortunately don’t get the warranted and same attention. Oh well. I always enjoy this game. The Army-Navy game of course gets the bright lights in mid-December and always will. But, this is normally a close game that almost always decides the Commander in Chief trophy because Army is never a factor anymore (unfortunately). Navy joins a conference in football for the first time and they’ve gone 2-0 already in the American and are off to a 3-0 start for the first time since CPJ was HC in Annapolis back in 2006. The Fly Boys had an extra week to prep for this cross-country trip to the east coast and are coming off a 14-pt loss at #2 ranked Michigan State. The Mids are 5.5 pt favorites. Navy reeled off 7 straight wins in the series from 2003 to 2009 (CPJ’s influence?). But, the Falcons have now taken 3 of the last 5. Prior to that streak by Navy that started in 2003, the USAFA had won 19 of 21 in the series between 1982 and 2002. Great game. Great people. Class in action...as opposed to that other game the CBS network will be providing to the nation.

3:30 ABC: Texas Tech (3-1/0-1) vs #5 Baylor (3-0)
*Wow! What a tough loss for the Red Raiders in that wild one at home against the Toads this past Saturday. Does anybody in the Big 12 play any defense whatsoever? I don’t think so. I think one decent wagering strategy is to just blindly play the OVER in any Big 12 game regardless of how absurd the Over/Under line is set. Any game is pretty much assured to go into the 80’s and some will go over 100. If Ga Tech’s men’s basketball team could only score as many points as most all of the Big 12’s football teams do. The Bears have feasted on their regular vaginal out-of-conference scheduling with wins over SMU (56-21), Lamar (66-31) and this past weekend over Rice (70-17). Even NC State is advising Baylor to play somebody for crying out loud! This game will be played at a “neutral” site at Jerry World outside Dallas. The Bears are 15.5 pt favorites. Seems like way too many for a team who has played a bunch of middle school teams so far. TTU has won at Arkansas and should have beaten TCU this past weekend. I’ll take the points, but before that I’ll play the OVER 88. This “game” may take 4 ½ hours to play. If Mike Patrick and Ed Cunningham are assigned to call the game, that should be grounds for cruel and unusual punishment to any viewers to have to listen to those 2 annoying morons for 4+ hours.

Love the analysis and previews each week. Look to them, for the straightforwardness, logical opinion and research that is performed in detail. Thank you, 622 times over.

My burning question out of all that concise information now digested is this, "Can Jeff Monken turn Army around"? I realize he has not had enough time yet. It disturbed me to watch Boss Ross get too old trying to accomplish that almost impossible feat. Stan Brock, Rich Ellerson, both had some value as coaching one side of the ball fairly well. Them being one of the three FB Independents left, cannot help can it(ND, BYU, do compete at a higher level)?

I think I'd like to see NCSU go to 5-0.

Does WFU have a shot at all? They have replaced Duke as the worst football team in the conference.

I think Pitt can beat Va Tech.

Notre Dame and Clemson will be interesting. I sort of hope Clemson wins big, that'll give the Tigers confidence playing GT later in the season. I thought GT would be better against ND, so who knows. it is still early in the season.

It has been a very frustrating season for Monken and Army so far. They lost by 2 to Fordham, who is a solid D1AA team. Lost by 5 at UConn and by 3 home against Wake (on a last second field goal). A few breaks here and there and they are 3-1 or perhaps even 4-0. Getting closer, but still need time for Monken to get his guys and ideas installed. It's Year 2 for Monken at West Point and it will take at least 3 or perhaps 4 years to legitimately become a contender for the CiC Trophy, IMO. Btw, what's the deal now with Army including "West Point" at the end of their name?... http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/teams/aaq/

NC State hasn't won an ACC title since 1979...that's the longest drought of the current original members. They have a legit chance this year. They get Clemson at home in the Textile Bowl. They do have to travel to Tally. They get rival UNC (who they crushed a year ago) at home. I still think their PGOTY (pronounced pih-GO-tee) is their upcoming Week 6 Friday night clash in Blacksburg... http://georgiatech.forums.rivals.com/threads/predicting-the-atlantic-division.4446/

I also think Pitt can win at Blacksburg. If they do, the Turkey Buzzards' nation leading streak of meaningless exhibition game appearances is in serious doubt. Go Panthers!

I am also rooting for the Kitty Cats against the Irish. Clemson and FSU remain the two most likely remaining hopes of the ACC getting a bid to the playoffs. Some people have a pipe dream (IMO) of ND one day joining the ACC in FB. I guess it could happen in about 40 years or Sofia Vergara marrying me - whichever one happens first. But, I've read the angle this week on another site suggesting we should all root for Clemson because as long as ND makes the playoffs without being a full member of the ACC (while watching ACC members qualify ahead of them), there is no push or pressing need for ND to become a full member of the ACC. Hogwash! ND will stay independent for a very long time. We'll all be long gone...well, unless Sofia is interested of course.

:)

Wonderful insight! Now I can get my priorities straight and pull in the right teams(maybe Father Green will forgive my non-Catholicism/blasphemy pulling against Notre Dome?).

Army West Point? Cadets sounded more "sports like".

Maybe I can get Betty White, should you get Sofia. Triple date should Stech get the Viagra gal.

You do remember Sofia and I are married? I know I'm fix'en to be 63 but when you got it you got it. But for 24 cases of Bud Light I can work something out:).

It adds to the unlikelihood of my marriage to her which in turn adds to the unlikelihood of Notre Dame ever becoming a full member of the ACC. Though Sofia does make my member full. But, I digress.

Revisiting the Big 12 and their absurd Over/Under lines...

...the Texas Tech-Baylor game opened at 88. It has now been bet upwards and the line is 89.5-90.0 at most books.

Perhaps the Big 12 should change its mantra from ONE TRUE CHAMPION to NO TRUE DEFENSES.

Looks like the UNC-GT, Bama-Cesspool, BC-Rutgers Durham, ND-Clemson, UofL-NCSU, and Air Force-Navy games among others are all going to be played in a steady rain this Saturday - and at times heavy.

Question, would you rather play Clemson if they beat ND or lose ? Our game will be their third big game most teams can't get up 3 weeks straight.( I hope )

I'm rooting for the Orangenecks. I'd like to see an ACC team with a chance to make the playoffs (as flawed as they are). We have a chance against Clemson regardless of what they do against ND. We normally play the Kitty Cats pretty well. They'll be out for revenge for the abuse we gave them last year on Grant Field. And, though scoring has not been the issue the last few times we've been to Memorial Say Hello To Buddha Up There In The Upper Deck Stadium, the home team has dominated this series of late.

Me too for the cowchip pattie hurdlers. Seriously, in the old days we parked in a gigantic, long field over near campus with attendants and yes, poop. The Priest during confession is forgiving me for rooting for GT two weeks ago, I will just say a few more Our Father's and another Hail Mary hopefully for forgiveness.

Thanks for reminding me to greet Buddha. Those seats are right above the moon. Still trying to trade up for the last row of the Band. Rather sit next to the Tubas than the Orange and Purple Sky. Our car is so old, we are trying to get to Death Valley without seeing God, first!

2012: lost at home vs Miami (42-36 in OT), lost at home vs Middle Tennessee (49-28)...next game? lost at Clemson (47-31)

2012: lost at Cesspool (42-10), lost at ACCCG vs FSU (21-15)...next game? won vs Southern Cal at Sun MEG (21-7)

2013: lost at home vs Va Tech (17-10), lost at Miami (45-30)...next game? lost at BYU (38-20)

Here's hoping this team is more like 2014 and less like 2010 thru 2013.
