I think during next week's MLB draft that Tech signee Tyler Stephenson is pretty much a "goner" to a MLB contract and will never suit up in a Tech uni. Having Joey Bart from Buford in the fold and much more likely to be Tech's future at the ever-critical position of catcher at Tech is a big deal.

What will be even more interesting is where English and Hughes go in the draft. If a high schooler goes after the 7th or 8th round, then it is more likely today they will wind up in college. That is, if they follow the advice of multiple consistent agents who have stated emphatically and unanimously that college is a better route outside of the elite top few rounders.

Tech needs arms on the hill to state the obvious.

Monday night the MLB Draft will commence at 7pmET with picks streamed live via MLB.com as well as live on TV via MLB Network. It will be interesting to see how quickly Tech signee Tyler Stephenson will come off the board. This particular mock draft has him going #1 overall... http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mlb-mock-draft-2015-version-5-0/

WOW!

And for those of us Braves fans, we have the 14th overall pick as well as the 28th overall (compensatory) pick. Note, I'd love to see the Braves take the stud pitcher out of Louisville, Funkhouser, if he's sitting there at #14.

The draft begins at 12:30pmET on Tuesday and 1pmET on Wednesday. We'll see if Matt Gonzalez, AJ Murray, or any other current Jackets are drafted. As originally posted in this thread, I expect we will see at least 3 - perhaps 4 - other Tech signees in addition to Stephenson drafted...but, the key is when. If they last past the 8th round, you start to feel better about the chances of them playing for Tech the next 2-3 years.

And there goes Stephenson at #11 to the Reds. Congrats to the young man. Wish we could have seen him in gold but cest la vie.

10 rounds in the books. Chances looking a lot better than Joey Bart and Tristin English (along with others) will suit up for the Jackets next spring.

Great to see AJ Murray taken in the 14th round by the Twins. His dad has to be smiling up in heaven.

Joey Bart taken in the 27th round by the Devil Rays. 3 of 4 picks associated with Tech so far are catchers (though Murray has proven at the collegiate level he can play multiple positions).

Joey Bart says he'll be a Jacket the next 3 years... http://www.gainesvilletimes.com/section/28/article/110254/

Bart said he turned down offers in the third and fourth rounds in order to join his new teammates at Georgia Tech this fall. The state-title winning catcher said he didn’t expect anything heading into the draft, and that he’ll be looking forward to seeing where he ends up in the draft after three years with the Yellow Jackets.

He’ll spend the summer playing for the East Cobb Yankees.

“The draft is crazy,” he said. “There are a lot of guys that I’m better than that go really, really high, and it can take just one team, one guy to like you, and that can be it. You’ve just got to have an open mind and let things happen.”

College baseball is hard to recruit. Once you find a great player and he shows promise, the MLB scouts start showing up and steal them away.
